Your Energy
Your Energy is pleased to announce that it has submitted a planning application to the Milton Keynes Council for a seven turbine wind farm at Petsoe Manor Farm, approximately two miles east of Emberton.
James Townsend, Project Manager for
the Milton Keynes Wind Farm, said “The threat posed by climate change and security of energy supply seems to be ever growing. If we are serious about tacking these challenges we need to be building wind farms wherever they are viable and suitable” he then added “the suggestion that the area lacks enough wind is nonsense, this wind farm will supply clean electricity equivalent to the needs of between 6,700 and 9,000 homes and will displace up to 36,300 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide every year from entering the atmosphere, which in broad terms is equivalent to the emissions from approximately 13,000 cars per year.”
Richard Mardon, Managing Director of Your Energy, added “Our consultation website will remain a key resource for the public to get further information on what we have submitted to the Council. We continue to encourage the local community to contact us through the website with their questions or comments.”
Your Energy’s Key Facts
TV interference
Wind farms can cause TV interference because they get in the way of the signal, and we expect that this may happen around the wind farm at Emberton.
We promise to remedy any TV interference caused by the wind farm. We will pay to get it fixed and as quickly as possible.
Our recently constructed Burton Wold Wind Farm near Kettering initially caused TV interference to some local residents. All problems we fixed within two weeks of the problem being reported and at our cost. There are no problems with TV now.
Community Benefits
We are proposing to contribute between £200,000 to £300,000 (index linked) to a fund managed by the local Parish Councils over the 25 year life of the wind farm. Ideally this money will be used for energy efficiency and education, to reduce demand of energy.
Traffic and the Emberton-Newton Road junction
The construction period will last between 6 and 9 months. There will be an increase in traffic for a temporary period. The greatest traffic movements will occur during the 7 (non- consecutive) days the foundations are poured for the turbines. On these 7 days, traffic will increase by 1% on the A509, 13% on Newton
Road and 13% on the A509/Newton Road junction. Traffic on the minor road from Emberton to Petsoe Manor Farm (UC476) will increase from 14 two-way movements an hour to 27 two-way movements an hour. For the rest of the 6–9 month construction period, traffic movement increases will only be half those detailed above.
Hedgerow removal
We need to widen the UC476 to make it suitable to carry the cranes and turbine components. This widening will make the road a total width of around 5 metres and we will build passing places to reduce the impact on residents living on that road. All widening will take place on part of the verges and no hedgerows are anticipated to be removed due to this widening. There will be around 80 trips to deliver the turbine components over the 6–9 month period. We will work with the Emberton Parish Council to ensure everyone is aware of the days these movements are likely to take place.
Energy balance
The total energy used to create a wind turbine is paid back after 8 months of operation. Just to be clear, this total energy includes all energy ever associated with each wind turbine. It therefore includes mining of raw materials, steel and concrete production, turbine manufacture, development, transportation, installation and disposal at the end of its 25 year life. d
