End of term news from Emberton School
Sports Day was as enjoyable as ever with every child enthusiastically taking part and managing to complete their event. The team games were popular and the children supported each other in their usual understanding and generous ways.
The tradition of Maypole dancing strongly continues, supported by Mrs Odell, a regular helper in school, and all the children from Foundation stage upwards put on a happy display of dancing.
This year the Leavers’ concert involved both Year Two and Three pupils who read out their memories of their time at Emberton School and their thoughts as they move onto their next school. Everyone who has contributed to the life of the school, including students and members of the village community, as well as parents and staff, really appreciated the humour and feelings behind each account of school life. The children in Foundation and Year One sang some lovely, tuneful action songs which made the whole event so enjoyable.
The summer term heralded the very last for the Year Three pupils at the school, as the age of transfer in all schools in Milton Keynes has been reviewed. As this is the end of an era the children and parents were treated to some special events. The energetic FOES committee organised fun and games on the school field, run by a local sports coach. Whilst the children played, the parents picnicked into the evening and the weather was wonderful. On the very last day the children enjoyed a special party style lunch and were entertained by The Great Gabbo who proved a big hit!
Now that the partnership between Emberton and Castlethorpe schools has been running successfully for a year the role of Senior Teacher has been replaced by an Assistant Headteacher in each school. The staff and governors would like to congratulate Mrs Margaret Gillam who has been appointed Assistant Headteacher at Emberton School.
The Headteacher, Elsa Steel, would like to say a big thankyou to all those who make the school a success, especially FOES, governors and parents and also all the little people who make it all worthwhile. d

Come and help us celebrate!
The United Reformed Church is just finishing a massive church renovation project that has totally transformed our church building. We are so proud of what has been done, and we want to share it with everyone in the town.
We are planning a Service of Celebration for Saturday afternoon, November 11, at 3pm, followed by refreshments in our Church Hall. There will also be a "Songs of Praise" service on Sunday afternoon, November 12, at 4pm as well as our usual Sunday morning service.
In the week following there will be many activities and events in the church, and we sincerely hope you will be able to take advantage of them. In planning this project, our aim was always to make our building a useful and welcoming part of our town centre. We want to share it with all of you.
There has been a place for worship in the area of our Church since 1660. In those 446 years, the church has undergone many transformations. The original congregation met in a barn, and then built a church building in the early 1700s. By the end of the 18th century that building had been totally transformed by a major building project, and then the current church building
was erected in 1880. So you can see that we are continuing in the tradition of this congregation with this latest building project. We have created a space for worship for the 21st century, and opened up the possibilities of our church being used for many events and activities in the future. We want the church to be active and alive not just on Sunday morning, but every day of the week.
And so, we invite you, come and help us celebrate. We look forward to welcoming you into our transformed Church building.
Peace, Revd. Cheryl Huff Slusser Newport Pagnell United Reformed Church
Party time at The Two Brewers
When Wellingborough Company, Double families, and many Olney residents, were
R Glass & Roofing Systems, looked for a venue to hold its summer barbecue, Directors Judy and Ian Sims, chose The Two Brewers.
As Olney residents, Judy and Ian knew that the High Street pub would be an ideal venue with a large garden and patio area. Sadly, the weather did not oblige and the party was moved indoors but, on Saturday 2nd September, the Company’s employees and
entertained by Hair of the Dog, a well- known local Irish band.
This is the first year that the company had chosen to hold such an event. “David Church, the Two Brewers owner, and his team were extremely helpful and couldn’t have done more to make our evening special,” commented Managing Director, Ian Sims, “and, despite appalling weather, everyone had a fabulous time. I’m sure we will be back.”
As the partygoers drifted off at the end of the night, everyone agreed that it had been an overwhelming success and it is clear that Olney, and The Two Brewers, has gained yet more fans. d
