St Peter’s Tyringham with Filgrave fete 10th June, 2.30pm
A wonderful and rare opportunity to enjoy an afternoon in the grounds of Filgrave House (formerly The Rectory). A place steeped in history where the 14 children of the Revd Joseph Tarver once played. It will be an afternoon of fun, games, sideshows, stalls and the
famous cream teas. Entry is only £1.00 for adults children go free.
The Revd Tarver was educated at Eton and came to Tyringham Hall as a tutor to the children of Mr Praed. He was granted the living of St Peter’s in 1850 and moved into The Rectory. He married in 1853 and had five children. His wife died in childbirth in 1861 at the age of 25. Six years later he married Isabella Knapp of Little Linford and had a further nine
children. He was Justice of the Peace and School Guardian. A window in his memory can be seen in the beautiful church nestling in the fields of the Ouse Valley. Replacing an earlier church the present building was erected in 1871 and designed by Revd Tarver’s brother at the height of the Arts and Crafts Movement and this is reflected in the magnificent chancel some of which is in need of repair and to which funds from the fete will be channelled.
