Mongol Rally 2007
On 21st July 2007, Team Moon Unit Alpha – Adam Stainton and James Stringer from Weston Underwood and Mike Ward from Olney – embarked on The Mongol Rally 2007 in order to raise money for Mercy Corps and Send a Cow.
They will (hopefully) be driving a third of the way around the world in four
weeks in a car worth less than a week's wages and with the engine capacity of a kettle, through mountains, deserts, what could only optimistically be called roads, and all in temperatures of up to 50°C.
Throw in the fact that there are no support crews on the race, none of them know the first thing about cars and they know even less Russian and it suddenly makes the fact that two of the team have never even driven on a motorway seem almost trivial.
