Wollaston Carnival – Saturday 19 June 2010
The Carnival Committee held their AGM recently at the Hill and elected the following team to plan and prepare for next years event: Chairman – David Robins, Secretary – Debra Styles, Treasurer - Liz Willis, along with Jan Taylor, Barry Gray, Richard Aldridge, Dave Kindell, Dallas Salsbury-Newman and Andrew Newton.
Despite many pleas in this quality publication and elsewhere, it seems that not too many of you are bothered whether or not the Carnival survives into the future. We had only one new member come along to join and so this year may again be a struggle for the small but hard-working committee. Unfortunately long standing member and recent chairman Terry Savage has had to stand down this year due to work commitments, but will still be helping out as and when possible.
However it is still not too late to join, we would still welcome more general committee members to help spread the load. It would be good to have new ideas and suggestions to make next years Carnival even better. Next year will be the 25th Anniversary of the Carnival, at least since it was revived after the building of the by-pass. So we could do with as many as possible on the Committee to help with this special celebration. If you may be interested in joining us, then please contact any committee member or call the chairman on the above number for more details. Many of the popular items will be booked to appear again in the next Carnival and we keep our fingers crossed for fine and dry weather as enjoyed this year.
The written quiz league has unfortunately had to be stopped by Terry due to the above reason but he would like to thank everyone in the village and elsewhere who either bought or sold sheets. Your support has been much appreciated by the Committee over the years and we have raised £1000+ during the life of the quiz. However the general knowledge quizzes at the Works in London Road, will still carry on into the future. The quiz is held on a Wednesday evening once every four weeks. It normally consists of 8 rounds of 10 questions, with a separate picture/theme quiz and starts at about 8.30pm; look out for posters round the village. So why not get yourself a team sorted out (of up to 6 people) and come along to show us how clever you are? I promise that it will not be as hard as the written Carnival Quiz, but there may be the odd tricky question to make you think. The next quiz will be a Christmas special for which the date is to be advised.
