Over the years David and Georgina Jeyes and their family have many special memories of Olney. They are delighted to have found the perfect place to open their new gift shop in The Galleries for the next generation, Philippa and Anna, to run. For David and Georgina, usually to be found in Earls Barton at their busy pharmacy and family gift shop, it is a welcome return to a well-loved town.
JEYES of The Galleries OLNEY
Keepsake Gifts for Family & Friends
Let us turn the pages back to during the war when Marie Chapman with her concert party The Regionnaires sang to the troops stationed in Gayhurst. She little knew that in the early 1970s her future son-in- law, Richard Zielinski would, by coincidence, be involved in buying Gayhurst Manor converting it into luxury flats and houses as it is today. Quite an achievement for a young group of entrepreneurs. Richard and his new bride, Georgina’s sister, Alex Taylor moved straight into The Dovecote at Gayhurst joined by mother-in-law, Marie, in the converted Lady Digby House. Olney was their local town for shopping and entertaining – the Four Pillars being almost their “local”. Gayhurst became where all the family gathered at the weekend – the younger generation chasing ghosts and the older ones playing tennis in the grounds after a long Sunday lunch. They were special, happy days.
During the 1980s the “in” place for David, Georgina and their friends to reunite was The Olney Wine Bar, it was trendy, different and fun. Listening to the folk singers catching up and singing carols round the tables at Christmas time – it became a tradition, with Roger leading the restaurant with his strong Welsh voice.
When their best friends, John and Loie Perkins, returned from France a few years ago they settled, yes, in Olney, in The High Street. The long Sunday lunches in Olney have returned. It was Loie who spotted the “to let” sign in The Galleries, following a chat with Anna at Georgina’s recent 60th – Retirement? No way! No time!
David, Georgina, Philippa and Anna would like to thank all those friendly Olney people who have made them so welcome during the past few frantic weeks – they could not have survived without pizzas and strong coffee from the Kasbah! Little Maisie Jeyes-Blackburn aged 2 has become addicted to their pasta too! Four generations of the family are now involved – from 88 to 8 month old baby Jack. Together with the help and support of their team of staff crossing over the border from Earls Barton they hope to welcome you to their new shop in The Galleries soon.
