Local charity trades up to a brighter future
REGULAR CUSTOMERS AT the Age UK Milton Keynes shop in Olney High Street, formerly Age Concern, will know how busy this popular little shop can be. And sometimes things got a bit cramped. All that is about to change with a move to bigger, better premises. Customers will not have to go far to find the new shop as it is just next door.
The interior of the new shop is spacious and modern and has been fitted out in the new, vibrant Age UK brand colours. It will offer a bright, welcoming shopping experience equal to that of any leading UK retailer. Being about three times the size of the old shop it will have a much wider selection of bargains, unexpected finds and good quality clothing on display with plenty of space for customers to browse.
An integral part of the shop will be an information and advice service, where an adviser will be on hand every weekday morning to offer free, independent advice and information on any aspect of life to older people. This service will not just be for the person directly affected, but also for relatives who might be concerned about their loved ones.
Shop Manager Sylvia Lown said; “My team can’t wait to be able to display more of our stock and to provide a greater choice to customers. It will be fabulous to provide a bigger and better service to the people of Olney”.
Age UK Milton Keynes is a “brand partner” of the national Age UK organisation, but fiercely maintains its independence. The local charity prides itself on ensuring that “money raised in Milton Keynes stays in Milton Keynes”. It has nine retail outlets in the Milton Keynes area whose profits help provide support and services for older people locally, including the much valued Kitchener Centre in Timpson’s Row and the friendly lunch clubs in the High Street and at Clifton Court.

Olney RFC Under 9s Alliance Cup
Champions
Olney RFC Under 9 team travelled to Long Buckby on 6th March to play in the prestigious Alliance Cup. We had two teams entered and both teams did us proud! The A team went on to pick up the main trophy of the day and The Alliance Cup, for the third year in a row!
A fantastic result for Olney RFC.
Olney RFC Under 10s Alliance Report
After a fantastic team effort from all the kids, Olney U10 won the Bowl at the Alliance this weekend. (Olney U10 squad:- Georgia Brock (captain), Jacob de Main, Struan Brooks, James Kilburn, Charlie Hicks, Alex Demontes, Harvey Dunn, James Herman, Isaac Pearson, Zack Parkinson, Rhys Stickland).
It was a very tough competition, made up of 16 talented U10 teams. Olney had a tough draw, but only conceded one try and were very unlucky not to have won the pool. Their first game was against Long Buckby B, and though Long Buckby were very tough opponents, Olney ended up winning 3-0 (tries Charlie Hicks, James Kilburn, Struan Brooks). In their 2nd game, they were up against a very strong ON’s A team, but Olney had played exceptionally well in defence, resulting in a 0-0 draw. The first half saw us camped on our own try-line with everyone putting their bodies on the line provide some fantastic tackling and overall team work. The second half saw the reverse with Olney applying the pressure. In the final group game Olney played Old Scouts A team, and despite spending much of the time camped out on the Old Scouts line, they just couldn’t break through to score the try they needed to win the group, resulting in a 0-1 loss.
Olney then played Towcester in the Semi Final for the Bowl, and following a very fierce match, they were ultimately successful beating Towcester 3-0 (tries Charlie Hicks 2, Jacob de Main). They then faced Buckingham in the Bowl Final, and put in a fantastic team effort to win the Bowl, with a 3-1 win (tries Isaac Pearson, James Kilburn, Charlie Hicks).
Everyone in the team gave 110% on Sunday and everyone had the desire and hunger to walk away with something. Georgia proved to be a formidable leader and captained the side by leading by example. The forward play was incredible at times and enabled us to secure good quick ball for the backs and the defence was outstanding for the whole team.
Everyone wore the pink and grey shirt with pride on Sunday and the coaching staff of Paul, Gareth and Rob were proud of the effort, dedication and overall team spirit the players showed. A massive thanks goes to all the parents who gave up their Sunday to support the team. I appreciate it was extremely cold but the coaching staff and players appreciate the support too.
This was the first of many tournaments as we conclude this season so let's hope this is one of many pieces of silver.
