News from Lavendon School
Pancake Day
Excitement once again heightened at Lavendon School at the thought of those delicious pancakes being cooked. Mrs Van Riel (LSA) kindly cooked and helped to serve the 110 pancakes. Each child had the choice of four tasty toppings; some children returned their request slips with all four boxes ticked! Needless to say the event was very successful. In the afternoon the excitement carried on as we held pancake races for each class. Due to strong winds across the playground the pancakes seemed to have a mind of their own flying out of the frying pans much to the dismay of those racing.
Lavendon School is 136 years old
In March Lavendon School celebrated being a total of 136 years old. The school first opened in 1875 in what is now the Railway Nursery building where it remained until 1971 when the current school building was finished.
In celebration of 40 years in this building, the school is holding an open morning where everyone is welcome to come into school and have a look round. Each school class has studied a different decade – 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. News on how the open morning went and photographs will appear in the next edition of the Phonebox.
Class 1 and Class 2 Lavendon Village Walk
Class 1 and Class 2 enjoyed their walk round Lavendon Village; the walk had been planned earlier in the term but sadly the weather was dreadful so the outing had to be cancelled. Each child was given a clip board with a map of Lavendon attached to it showing the buildings and places of interest. The children enjoyed identifying different buildings and places on the map whilst looking at the layout of the village; the favorites being the church and of course the playground.
On their return to school each child was given a blank map of Lavendon Village and asked to put pictures of the buildings they had seen in the correct place.
This was great fun!
