MK BRASS BAND CONCERT AT ST ANDREWS GT LINFORD/GIFFARD PARK MK ON SAT 7 MAY
We are holding a concert on May 7 in aid of the on-going St Andrews restoration and preservation fund and MK Brass funds.
St Andrews is a 12th century church that is in very regular use now as a key centre for ecumenical worship (ie all denominations) and has a very active and vibrant congregation, specifically covering Giffard Park and Gt Linford although its congregation also comes from further afield. The building itself has a very interesting history, starting off in Anglo Saxon times and then being extensively modernised and extended in the 17th and
18th centuries, initially by Sir William Pritchard, who was an MP and former Lord Mayor of London and he commissioned the design and development of the Gt Linford Manor House and grounds including the Church. the Church. All
changed in the
late 1960’s and
early 1970’s
when the new city was designated, MKDC was formed to develop the city and acquired the Manor House and grounds. The church was once again extensively refurbished and extended internally by the ecumenical partnership, but not
the external stonework and facade, and it is this area that we are now turning our immediate attention to, as with age some of the stonework is crumbling and urgently requires repair and /or replacement. There are also further plans for further internal redecoration and refurbishment.
MK Brass has kindly offered to help this worthy cause so as to leave the building in good shape for future generations and they now play to a high level in the national leagues.
