readers letters
Dear Editor
swerve onto the cobbled area which then threw me from my bike.
Dickens of a Christmas
This letter is written to recognise the kindness of the lovley couple who came to my rescue whilst I was lying prone across the road. I do not know their names, but if they are reading this, please accept my sincere thanks.
Please can you tell me the date of the Dickens of a Christmas 2012? I am hoping it is not 2nd December as I canʼt make it then and I always feel it is a lovely start to the festive season.
The uneven cobble area is a substantial hazard to cyclists. It does not deter other vehicles from running over it so does not slow the traffic as intended and is a trip risk for pedestrians.
Also, we live over the border in Bozeat, but thank you for sending us your wonderful magazine. We are quite a way from Wellingborough and miles from Northampton so look upon Olney as our local town and like to support the shops and events when we can. It is great to know what is going on and we like to read the council report. My real favourite is Pibworths Page!! As this is usually near the end of the magazine there is that lovely feeling of anticipation!!
I would ask that the council act to remove this cobbled area making it safer for all users of West Street.
Keep up the good work everyone.

What a breath of fresh air the article by Tom Revitt was in the August Phonebox. A chap who is brave enough to write the truth about the babble that goes on in our House of Commons.
Ed: Youʼre in luck Jan and Trevor, this year it is on the 9th December.

Dear Editor
Why do we put up with it? Why do they not grow up? Thank you Tom, keep up the good work. Every good wish to you.
On Tuesday 17th July I fell from my bicycle having been intimidated by a car travelling too quickly on West Street. I was forced to

Inebriates
Celebrate
Olney Inebriates, neither a reference to the heady atmosphere in the town since the Hopping Mad brewery was established nor to a general display of drunkenness, but rather a reference to an informal group that has now been meeting in the town every month for 25 years this September.
25 Years
It was established in the days when Aspreys was called “Drift Way” and did not offer a through route to the west of the town. The rules of association, like the British constitution, are loosely based on Magna Carta but have never been written down.
Peripatetic meetings continue to be held at 8pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month with the host providing “glasses, mothers pride and mousetrap”. In the days before PCs and Smartphones invitations were photocopied and hand delivered, nowadays we have the “Electric Newt” and a Facebook page.
Any former members reading this are invited to join the celebration at Chris Robertsʼ in September. Usual rules apply, RSVP at your peril!
