1st Olney Summer Scouting Fun Tolmers Summer Camp
Seventeen scouts and four leaders from 1st Olney Troop recently enjoyed a weekʼs Summer Camp at Tolmers, a large Scout Camp just outside Cuffley in Hertfordshire. Every year it hosts Scouts and Guides from all over the country for two weeks of Scouting fun. This yearʼs theme was Superheroes, with quite a lot of Olympic activity thrown in as well!
Deputy District Commissioner Pat Pankhurst presented Scout Gold Awards to five Scouts and Silver Awards to three Cubs during the evening – well done to all of them.
Feedback from the Scouts and their families has been tremendous – they obviously had a good time! Every day a choice of over 20 activities such as quad biking, human table football, swimming, shooting, canoeing and archery was available. In the middle of the week the boys also undertook a 13km incident hike, with one of the 1st Olney teams coming home a very creditable fourth. Completing many of the activities means some of our younger Scouts now achieve their Adventure Challenge badge – well done to them.
We are now looking forward to the Autumn programme. The postponed duck race on the 16th September is one of our first major fundraising events. If you havenʼt yet got a duck, look out for our duck sellers at the market and the BOFF Food Festival.

Can you help fill our Group Scout Leader role?
The leaders were kept busy as the catering crew, with sardines barbequed over the new fire pit, a great hit. A shady camping spot kept everyone cool, though the recent heavy rain meant some parts of the site were still heavy going, mud wise.
1st Olney Scout Group now has a strong team of leaders throughout Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – new help at the beginning of the year created a much needed Friday night Scout Troop that enabled 20 Cubs to continue their Scouting. However with more leaders we can accept even more Scouts and more importantly to achieve more we urgently need to fill the position of Group Scout Leader.
End of Term Regatta Willen Lake
Can you, or do you know anyone who might be interested in filling this recently vacated important role?
As an end of term joint event for 1st Olney Clifton (Tuesday night) and Weston (Friday night) Troops, leaders organised a regatta with Whitecap Leisure at Willen Lake.
This is primarily an administrative organisational role and does not require someone with a Scouting background although of course this would help. Perhaps you are retired or were previously involved with Scouting? There is an option to job share if required. So if youʼre an organiser, can provide direction and want to work with an enthusiastic team to achieve results and enable change – you could be the person weʼre looking for!
Scouts enjoyed close bell boat, canoe, kayak and katakana racing as

This is a great opportunity to get involved in a local and world-wide organisation.
