The High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Mrs Carolyn Cumming, is riding a horse from the north to the south of Buckinghamshire in order to raise funds for both the Buckinghamshire Community Foundation & the MK Community Foundation.
FORMER DERBY HOUSE, MARKET PLACE
En-route she will visit many of the charities that have benefitted from funding from either Community Foundation, beginning her journey in Olney at the Cowper & Newton Museum on Sunday 16th September. The journey will complete on Sunday 23rd September having visited 21 local projects on her way.
All funds raised will be divided equally between the two Community Foundations to be used in grants to help improve the lives of local families and children in our communities. If you would like to make a donation you can do so by going to www.localgiving.com/charity/highsheriffscharit yride or by sending a cheque made payable to MK Community Foundation and sent to MK Community Foundation (HSCR) Acorn House, 381 Midsummer Boulevard Central Milton Keynes, MK9 3HP.
The High Sheriff had precedence over all in a county until 1908 when the Lord Lieutenant became the prime office under the crown and as is the case with our present Queen, the Lord Lieutenant is her personal representative. However the High Sheriff remains as the Sovereignʼs representative for all matters relating to the Judiciary and maintaining law and order.
Carolyn will be setting off from the Market Place at approximately 11am if you would like to see her and her posse set off!
There are quite a variety of childrenʼs categories too; dependant upon age, ranging from decorated biscuits, a limerick about school, hand-made necklace, a model from wood, metal or plastic to an arrangement of different flowers put into a 1lb jam jar.
You may be aware that the shop that used to house Derby House and before that the Olney Saddlery has had two planning applications placed for changes of use. The shop was vacated over a year ago and has been available to rent since then with a number of people interested but nothing firm so far. The building, 33 Market Place, is quite large, set over 3 floors and around 5000 square feet in floor space.

HOLIDAY BIBLE CLUB
Two planning applications have been received. The first is to convert the two upper floors to a number of apartments. The second is to convert the ground floor to incorporate some A3 use. This means that instead of it being wholly retail use, it will become a coffee shop and it is suggested that a national coffee chain store will be moving onto the shop. This has caused a number of concerns from local traders and residents alike. When it comes to planning we cannot instruct how planning applications are dealt with, however we can make views known so they can be taken into account and we can put in representations, however it is planning policy that decisions are made to and it is the grey areas of this where representation may make a difference.
If you want to look at details of the planning application and make comments you can do so on the Milton Keynes Council website or indeed you can go to the Civic Offices in Central Milton Keynes to look at the planning file.
Holiday Bible Club took place this August as has been the tradition for well over twenty years now. This yearʼs theme, “Challenge 2012” echoed the Olympic sporting feast weʼve all enjoyed recently and are now eagerly awaiting the Paralympics. Hundreds of children and young people were once again entertained for the week by the Olney Churches and a very large team of volunteers. The young people from Olney and the surrounding villages seemed to be having almost as much fun as the organisers for what is a thoroughly valued part of the summer in Olney. As ever our huge admiration and great thanks to all those who helped make the week such a special one for so many children and young people.
