THIS YEARʼS MUSTER ROUTES
Sporting mayor Catriona Morris is asked to perform all kinds of civic duties during her year of office – but one of the “more unusual and most pleasurable” came on Saturday at the Newport Pagnell Muster, she declared.
A “hidden history” exhibition of Newport during its time as one of Cromwellʼs most important garrison towns during the Civil War was also on show in the start/finish Hall.
MKʼs first lady, a self-confessed sports fan with dual UK and Australian citizenship, had just completed a three-mile lap of historic Bury Field during Newportʼs annual festival of walks on one of the hottest days of the year and still wearing her heavy mayoralty chain.
Local Tory MP Mark Lancaster, an early supporter of this Heritage Lottery-funded project, described the display as “extraordinarily interesting” and an example of what local communities can achieve. He was also among the many walkers taking part.
Picnic - 3 miles
Not to be outdone, Wendy Egan, Newportʼs own top citizen, gallantly kept pace with some of her grandchildren as they too went walkabout round the ʻPicnicʼ course with the VIP party.

A Unique Concept For Preschool Children
Groovy Moversʼ unique preschool class has proved a serious hit after another hugely successful year in Olney.
At “Groovy Movers”,
founded and run by
Lavendon resident Georgina Guest, children use dance, role-play and games to explore a new theme each week, tailor-made to reflect the childrenʼs experiences or current affairs.
“Itʼs fun, educational and a
very original concept that
keeps the kids engaged unlike other ʻsameyʼ toddler classes weʼve
tried,” says Trudi Smith, whose three- year-old son Jack attends the classes. “Georginaʼs energy and enthusiasm keeps the children really engaged. Big thumbs up from Jack!”
Due to this yearʼs outstanding success, Groovy Movers is branching out with new sessions in Olney, Lavendon, Biddenham, Sherington and Newport Pagnell, with classes for 21⁄2 to 4-year- olds and after-school clubs for school
children aged 4 to 7.
Creative dance workshops in preschools and schools and bespoke themed dance parties are available for all ages too!
