The film is an account of how the Sierra Leonean people
attempt to handle the consequences of the ‘Civil War’ that raged in the 1990’s in their own way.
The Skills Centre: Apart from the cholera epidemic the excitement of the moment in Sierra Leone is the forthcoming General Election. That, together with extreme rainfall makes communications difficult at the moment. We are delighted that the Young People’s Group from Sutcliff Church are today doing a sponsored walk to raise money to provide a new water well at the Skills Centre.
The Cassava Project: A few months ago some money was sent to Brima James Kabia to start a project growing cassava, a local foodstuff, and then selling in the local market. Below is James’s report:
“I bought 45 bundles of cassava cuttings and some assorted farm tolls. I distributed the said items to ten people six and four women and men respectively. Work commence in December. All the ten people are now harvesting cassava leaves for consumption as one of our best dish in the country. The tubers will be ready for harvesting by December Constraints: Not withstanding the above I experience some difficulties. Ten intended beneficiaries are yet to benefit and more are yearning for the project. The ten who benefited are now making income by selling the leaves to consumers in Freetown, but are now faced with pest problem. This has cause reduction on the seedlings.
Appeal: The above conditions is being controlled locally but the impact is slow, for rapid result we need to buy organic fertilizers which are for sale in one private shop in Freetown. As such I am appealing for assistance to do the purchase and assist to help the others to make their dream of benefiting from the project comes true. Thank you.” Thank you to everyone who has helped in any way with The Link.
