SPORT NEWPORT PAGNELL
facilities and free car parking. Our teams compete in the MK League and Bucks Shield Leagues and although we are a relatively small club compared to some of the larger clubs in Milton Keynes, our teams remain competitive. Recently our Mens Bucks Shield Team and our Mens A and Ladies B Teams in the MK League have been promoted to higher Divisions this summer.
If you are looking for a family friendly club Newport Pagnell is the one. We are a great club for starters into the game, we have a big heart and offer good value for money and we cannot stress enough how much we welcome all types of players, young and old. At the present time we have approx. 90 members, half of which are juniors. We are keen to encourage youngsters to take up the sport. Girls, particularly need to be encouraged and we could offer courses for them alone if they don’t want to be with boys! We just want everyone to feel welcome and enjoy this lovely game.
We have two fully Licensed Tennis Coaches, Nigel Willard and Gavin Fowell who have set up new coaching programmes for all ages and abilities and who are working together with the schools to get more children interested which is where it starts. The Autumn Coaching Programme has just begun and can be seen on our website.
www.newportpagnelltennis.net.
It is not too late to apply to go on to these programmes. Please contact Nigel Willard on willardtennis@btinternet.com or ring him on 07946 734377.
The Club has many social events such as Adult Clubnights, Junior Clubnights, American Tournaments, Quiz Nights, Barbecues, Christmas parties and other events for those who only want to join socially.
We also have a public court that we hire out at £6 per hour. Booking can be done through the reception at Middleton Swimming Pool on 01908 610477 and this court is available every day up to 6.00 p.m. for the general public unless there are club events taking place. Of course we would prefer you to join so that we can increase our membership and thereby help us to keep the Club financially secure. This will enable us to improve our facilities even further but we are just as happy to see the courts being used by the public. Please contact us and we may be able to provide a “Pay as you Play” initiative if there is enough interest.
So, why not come down to the Club and have a go. You can come down to one of our Clubnights, Wednesday or Sunday evenings from 6.00 p.m. onwards and play two times before deciding whether to join or not and you can attend any of the coaching programmes. Obviously these are cheaper if you are a member.
Please check out our website for further information www.newportpagnelltennis.net and contact Mary Hartley on 01908 605435 if you have any queries or questions.
To join the Club please contact Ben Chittenden, Membership Secretary on 07985 319776 or download an application form off our website.
TENNIS
After the wonderful spectacle of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games and the success of Team GB including Andy Murray’s fantastic Gold Medal, Laura Robson’s Silver Medal and the skill of the Paralympic Tennis Players, Peter Norfolk and co, the country needs to keep the momentum and enthusiasm for sport alive well into the future. And don’t let’s forget Andy Murrary’s Grand Slam win at the US Open – the first Brit since 1936! What a wonderful summer this has been for tennis. To make sure this sporting legacy carries on why not take up tennis as a sport? It is a sport that you can play your whole life as it is one of the only sports that can be played by the very young right up to when you are very old. Newport Pagnell Tennis Club is keen to see lots more people playing tennis but do you know, hardly anybody in Newport Pagnell actually knows where the Tennis Club is!
Our tennis club is right in the middle of Willen Road Sports Ground, you can’t see us from the road and the signage to the Club is practically non-existent but we can assure you we are very much in existence and have been thriving for many years. We have four extremely good hard surfaced courts, three of which are floodlit and a clubhouse with all the necessary
