to take up the underlying surface and allow us to keep our balance. The surrounding muscles as a result must be strong and work in unison to provide coordination, balance and strength around the foot and ankle. If this is not the case then we are prone to many musculoskeletal problems: ankle and foot sprains, tendinopathyʼs (eg Achiilles), Shin Splints, Plantar fasciitis (pain under the foot) to name but a few. Physiotherapy is useful in treating these conditions by mobilizing stiff joints, prescribing strength and balance exercises, soft tissue massage type treatment to stretch out tight muscles and fascia, taping to stabilize joints and facilitate muscles and ultrasound or acupuncture to settle inflammation and pain.
