COUNCILLOR CORNER
A contribution from Cllr Debbie Brock and Cllr Peter Geary
SURVIVING WINTER
experiences of wind farms and their effect on localities as well as a representative of Haversham Parish Council and the local ward councillor as well as Peter. This application has already been appealed by the applicant as they felt Milton Keynes Council had taken too long to determine the application. This will also be heard at an appeal by public inquiry in July.
At the time of writing snow has been on the ground for a week and we have had several weeks of very cold weather, with this in mind Surviving Winter is a fund to help people, predominantly over 60, who cannot afford essential items of equipment or services and to ensure they are warm and safe over the winter period. Age UK Milton Keynes is working in partnership with Milton Keynes Community Foundation to provide items such as bedding, door and lock repairs, emergency food and clothing. They can also loan portable radiators in emergency circumstances. This winter they have introduced a Winter Warmth pack, this consists of a selection of items that will assist in combating the cold weather, such as a hot water bottle, blanket, thermal socks and hat. Please call Age UK MK on 01908 557885 to arrange for an assessor to visit. The MK Community Foundation would welcome your support if you feel you can donate any funds towards the appeal, contact Email jane.ordazstubbs@mkcommunityfoundation.co.uk for details of how to take part. You can also sponsor or donate to the campaign by visiting: www.justgiving.com/miltonkeynescommunityfoundation or phone (01908) 690276
The Nun Wood application when it was heard last time at DCC was unanimously refused by the committee however this time the committee was undecided and the chairmanʼs casting vote was used to recommend refusal. The planning system is supposed to be consistent - if the same application comes forward it should get the same result. As this application had not changed since it was first heard it seems strange that this was the result, however that is the way it is.
WIND FARMS DISCUSSED AT PLANNING MEETING
Towards the end of last year there was a rise in the burglary of houses in the Olney area. This type of crime is the top priority for Milton Keynes Police and hopefully you have seen a rise in patrolling the streets of the town. All the offences are thoroughly investigated and a number of arrests have been made. Since the Police took this action there has only been one reported offence in the town since mid December. It is still a good idea to review the security in your home, and make sure you leave everything locked and secure when you go out. Itʼs also important that valuable items (including car keys) are not on display or within reach of letterboxes. Make sure your sheds are locked and secure and donʼt leave tools in the garden that could be used to break into your house. If you see anyone acting suspiciously and you have any concerns whatsoever that a vehicle or person might be involved in a burglary then dial 999. If you have information that does not require the police to be deployed immediately then please call 101 or if you donʼt want to give your details then ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Our Surgery will take place on Friday 1st February at the Olney Centre from 7.30 – 8.30pm, please feel free to come along if you feel we can help with any matter or contact us at any time on the details given.
The Nun Wood wind farm proposals are continuing their slow progression through the planning process, the application was again being considered by the Development Control Committee (DCC) at Milton Keynes Council on the 22nd of January. It is over 7 years now since the proposals for a wind farm at Nun Wood near Lavendon were first made public and the application has been withdrawn, re-submitted, refused, appealed, determined, challenged in the high court, the decision revoked and now, again went before Milton Keynes Council DCC before finally going to appeal at public inquiry, due to be heard in June.
This latest DCC meeting considered two planning applications for windfarms on the same evening, the Orchard Way application at Haversham as well as the Nun Wood application.
The proposals at Haversham would see a number of Turbines located on a farm just outside the village overlooking the river valley to Milton Keynes. The turbines would be visible for many miles around. A number of local people spoke who had first hand
The appeal will be heard in June with the eventual result expected in October which will be over 8 years since first being proposed.
