SCHOOLS REPORT
Emberton School
Our topic this half term is Toys and we have been very busy! We have been looking at old toys kindly lent to us by Milton Keynes Museum and have made a non- fiction book all about them. We have been exploring how toys move and are made and tried our hands at making our own Jack- in-the-Boxes! Our home corner has been transformed into a Toy Museum and a Dolls’ Hospital. We have also been writing character studies on our favourites from the film “Toy Story” and are hoping for a special visit from Bedford Museum - more about that next month!
Lavendon Pavilion Pre School
The children of Lavendon Pavilion Pre School have had a busy few months since returning in September.
The new leader, Natalie Williams, has been making full use of the village amenities, taking the children on bus trips to Olney, on the Lavendon Narrow Gauge Railway and to the Lavendon Church coffee morning. The children also enjoyed making their own scarecrow for the Lavendon Village Show and then exploring the village and looking for other scarecrows. At Christmas, parents were treated to a fantastic nativity play.
As a result of parent fundraising (and some creative shopping by Natalie!), the Pre School has a lot of new toys and equipment including a computer set up for the children with a colourful, over-sized keyboard.
Lavendon Pavilion Pre-school operates within the heart of Lavendon village community and welcomes all children the surrounding community from the age of 2. Opening hours are Tuesday – Thursday 9 am – 2pm. Children can attend for a half or a full day.

Our Year three and Year four children in Sycamore class recently visited the Recycling Centre in Milton Keynes. The children were able to experience first-hand how all of our pink recycling sacks are sorted. They were amazed at the vast amount of sacks that had been delivered. The children squealed when they saw a rat appear and were not impressed with the smell, even though their guide explained that the land fill site was much worse!
After the tour the children saw different recycled objects and were able to play on a mini version of the Recycling Factory. Afterwards the children all worked together demonstrating true team work in creating a class ‘hand tree’ which was made from a variety of recycled materials. A fun and informative trip!
The children at Newton School had a wonderful build up to Christmas this year. We were lucky enough to enjoy a trip to Campbell Park on a very cold and frosty morning to learn about Percy the Park Keeper. The children all enjoyed being nature detectives for the morning looking for traces of animals and building leaf men!
The school was lucky enough to have a visit from a puppet theatre company who put on a performance of The Nutcracker which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. After the performance we had a puppet making workshop and the children were able to take their creations home.
All the children took part in
the school nativity play which they performed in the church to a packed audience who all enjoyed mince pies and mulled wine after watching the children. The children all did a wonderful job and sang and acted superbly!
On the last day of term the children and staff went off carol singing around the village whilst some of the parents prepared a traditional Christmas lunch which was awaiting the children and staff on their return to school. Everyone was very excited when Father Christmas dropped in at the end of the day!
This coming term promises to be as exciting as all the others with a trip to see the Gruffalo’s child, as well as looking after some chicks to look forward to!
