BURGLARIES IN OLNEY.
CULVERT AT OLNEY ROAD, LAVENDON
RAVENSTONE VILLAGE FETE JUNE 9th
NEWTON BLOSSOMVILLE SCHOOL PLAYING FIELD
Some may remember that towards the end of last year there were
a spate of burglaries in Olney. Arrests were made for many of these crimes and we saw a sharp decrease in offences before Christmas when the arrests were made. In the last month there have been another spate of burglaries in the town. The police reacted quickly and increased resources, both plain clothed and uniformed patrols on foot and in vehicles.
Following some innovative detective work an arrest was made,
the individual from Northampton was charged with four charges of burglary in Olney, one attempted burglary and one charge of taking
a vehicle without consent. He appeared at the Magistrates Court
and was remanded to prison to appear again in the near future for a further hearing.
This is a promising conclusion to a distressing chain of events for the residents concerned. The Police do react quickly to these issues and take them seriously. Peter has met with Police chiefs in Milton Keynes and can confirm that they will continue to take burglary seriously. It is however incumbent on us all to do as much as we can to protect our homes from intruders and the Police will give advice on how to do this.
Being on the border with both Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire, with different Police forces, can mean that sometimes people cross the borders to commit crimes in the hope that they will not be so
well known. The Police are very much aware this and do work with neighbouring forces sharing information, as this incident, and the recent attempted rave near to Olney demonstrate. Peter is however working with the Police in Milton Keynes to look at ways in which the border areas can be strengthened.
pupils as well as being a major part of the community in the village.
It has many good facilities but until the start of May was missing one that seems standard for many schools, a school field. Due to the generosity of a local land owner, some land was made available to the school. School Governors combined with local fundraising saw the field fenced, levelled and re-seeded. We were able to support with the application for planning permission which was granted for change of use last year. Debbie was delighted to go along on the 2nd May
to the opening of the field (picture above). It was a great day with the children obviously enjoying the open space which will be well used for lessons as well as school sport.
We understand that work to rebuild the culvert at Olney Road Lavendon is due to commence on site towards the end of June, our fingers are crossed that no bats turn up.
We will ensure that a letter goes around to residents nearer the time and site notices warning motorists of the closure will be placed to give advance warning.
The Village Fete for Weston Underwood and Ravenstone alternate every year between the villages. Last year on the Jubilee weekend in glorious sunshine Weston Underwood held their Fete so this year is the turn of Ravenstone. The Fete is on Sunday June 9th starting at 2pm in the wonderful gardens of Ravenstone House. The Fete has been a great success raising thousand of pounds over the past few years for local good causes including the church and the local village hall. This is the quintessential English village Fete and with good weather it will truly be a day to remember, we hope to see you there!
