NEWPORT PAGNELL WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
Being an adventurous lot (and all having Bus Passes!), a group of us decided to venture forth to Oxford for the day early in May.
It was a very chilly morning when we gathered at the bus stop, and we were grateful for the warmth of the bus when it eventually came. An hour or so later we arrived at Oxford Bus Station and decided on our plan for the day. One group went to Oxford Castle where they enjoyed a tour with a costumed guide, from the dungeons to the tower, where there were magni cent views over the Oxford rooftops and church steeples.
The other group made their way to the Oxford Botanical Gardens. Fortunately, by this time the sun had come out and it made for a pleasant afternoon wandering around the various plants and trees. Such a peaceful place amongst the hustle and bustle of a busy city.
We all enjoyed our day out and are already thinking of another trip in the near future.
For our meeting in May we were pleased to welcome Joan Harrington who came to tell us about her travels in New Zealand.
During a 6-week trip Joan and her husband toured around both North and South Islands, taking in mountains, waterfalls, sub-tropical rainforest, and many other wonderful sights. There was whale watching, swimming with
dolphins and, of course, the amazing hot springs of Rotorua in North Island.
Joan’s photographs showed a beautiful country, and prompted many questions and exclamations from the audience. A super evening’s entertainment.
The raffle this month was won by Iris Kennewell and Barbara Hilton.
Competition winners were Rosie Rockall, June Weston and Barbara Hilton.
Hearth and Home Chimneys are pleased to be able to offer the complete package to suit your stove installation requirements.
Newport Pagnell Women’s Institute meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Royal British Legion Club, and is always delighted to welcome new members. Our next meeting, in July, will be our traditional Garden Party (weather permitting), followed in August by a talk on Arctophillia (watch this space for an explanation).
