Dementia support workshops for local families
Home Instead Senior Care specialises in supporting older members of the community, enabling them
to remain living safely and happily in their own homes for as long as possible.
Part of our work involves looking after clients with dementia of varying types and at different levels. We know that remaining at home is particularly important for dementia sufferers who benefit from familiar surroundings and routines. But we also see that when family members take on the role of being the main carer they can become overwhelmed, both physically and mentally with the pressures and uncertainties of caring for loved ones.
To work towards making our community more dementia friendly, Home Instead are offering free dementia workshops to families in the locality who need support and are looking for a greater understanding of this common condition. Home Instead’s Family Workshops are based on the company’s ground breaking dementia training which all staff undertake as part of their on-going training. Those attending these free sessions will learn to identify the typical signs of dementia and gain a better understanding of the condition. It will also arm family carers and others in the
community with effective techniques for managing the many different and often challenging behaviour associated with dementia including refusal, delusions, aggression, false accusations, wandering and agitation.
Home Instead’s Dementia Workshops are not limited to family members. Places are also available to local people living and working in the community who may interact with someone suffering from dementia.
With an ageing population, cases of dementia are increasing which means that more and more people will be affected by the disease at some point in their lives. Our workshops aim to give individuals the knowledge to embrace the journey they are facing and share their knowledge and experience with others. Dementia training at Home Instead is based on extensive research from leading global experts in ageing and dementia and leads to City & Guilds accreditation for all Caregivers who have completed the programme.
If you would like to learn more about these workshops which will run from January 2014 or would like to book a place, please call Home Instead Senior Care Milton Keynes on 01908 920586 or email Sarah.Bove@ homeinstead.co.uk
