Past Players Lunch Saturday 12th October 2013
On Saturday October 12th, Olney Rugby club held its annual past players lunch. Over 100 former players enjoyed a two-course lunch washed down with plenty of beer and wine, before
cheering on Olney 1st XV in their league match against Newbold on Avon Rugby club.
This year, the former players were very happy to be joined by Carol Mynard, her sons James and Simon and ten other family members and friends. The family were presenting a bench to the club in memory of Mick Myndard, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Mick had been a loyal servant of the club for over 40 years. He started playing for the club as a 16 year old, as well as playing for the Bucks Youth team from 1968 to 1971. He played most of his rugby for the 1st XV, and was Player of the Year in 1975. He was in the team that won the Lewis Shield in 1975 and the North Bucks Shield in 1982.
When his playing career ended, he was a great supporter of the club, regularly helping behind the bar and serving on the committee right until his death. He is very much missed by everyone at Olney RFC.
The bench was unveiled by Carol, and Micks father Ken, shortly before the 1st XV match kicked off, and a short speech was given by James, Mick and Carol’s eldest son. The bench will be a lasting memorial to a great clubman. Carol, Ken, and all the family, would like to thank Olney Rugby club very much for inviting them to the lunch, and for all the kindness shown to them over the past few months.
