Pancake Day Tuesday March 4th
Shrove Tuesday and race day are fast approaching with only a few weeks remaining. This year is the 65th running of the world famous Olney Pancake Race since World War II when the tradition was revived by Canon Ronald Collins in 1948. The race against Liberal was introduced some two years later in 1950. The day improves year on year and we are expecting another fun packed day in 2014.
As I write this, entry forms are flying out the doors of NatWest and the limit of 25 runners will soon be reached so you may still have time to get that entry in. Raffle tickets are also selling fast with a range of excellent prizes and these are available at the monthly Farmers Markets, the Thursday Markets during February and through a range of outlets in the Town who are displaying the poster.
The Pancake Race Committee is again very grateful to Francis Jackson Homes Ltd and Dupont Teflon who continue as main sponsors and a number of other businesses in town who contribute year after year. This year we would also like to welcome Race Timing Systems who are providing state of the art timing equipment for the main race.
This year Tony Evans has stood down as Chairman of the Race Committee and Tony and Viv are taking a very well earned rest from organising the race after years of tireless work. I am sure that the readers will join myself and the rest of the organising committee in thanking them and wishing them well for their trip to Liberal to see the race from the other side of the ‘pond’.
Events on the 4th March start at 10.30 in the morning with the Children’s races and continue through the day with all welcome to see the live Liberal Link taking place in the newly refurbished Church Hall from 6.00pm. We hope to see you all there on the day.

Come to The Olney Pancake Race this year - there is so much to see and enjoy! Meet our
popular celebrity chef Lesley Waters, who will be present on the day once again. She will be demonstrating her skills and sharing a recipe idea or two. Lesley was a big hit in 2013. Don't miss
your chance to see her in action this year in the DuPontTM Teflon®-sponsored marquee on the Market Square. Do come in - there's plenty of space to sit and keep warm.
Before the ladies' race at 11.55am, the children's races are a real highlight of the day and definitely not to be missed. This year several of the local schools are taking part - and the children take it really seriously, and also of course have a very good time!
