Councillor Douglas McCall
Andy Maric
The Focus Team would like to thank Andy Maric for the work he did serving residents in the old Newport Pagnell South Ward across the past four years.
Andy said: “I’m honoured to have represented my home town over the past four years on Milton Keynes Council, speaking out on important local topics and the projects I have been able to support with the team. I know the team will continue to do a sterling job locally. Most notably, I’m pleased to see the town now has a wonderful clock which was spearheaded by a great local community campaign and I know, as part of the Lib Dem team, we are all very happy to have been able to back it.”
Andy stood down from his Newport Pagnell South post to take time to focus on his career, but he has not closed the book on taking part in local politics in the future.
Congratulations to the new Lib Dem mayor of MK
We would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the new Lib Dem mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Subhan Shafiq.

A very big thank you
Councillor’s Corner is back now the elections are all done and dusted.
Firstly, on behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank the residents of Blakelands, Giffard Park, southern Newport Pagnell and parts of Great Linford for their vote of confidence in the Focus Team by re-electing Councillors Paul Alexander, Derek Eastman and Douglas McCall back onto Milton Keynes Council. They represent them in the new Newport Pagnell South Ward.
We were, of course, disappointed that the north of Newport Pagnell, now joined with the villages to the north, no longer has Lib Dem councillors for the first time in more than 30 years.
The big winners in the local elections were Labour, who will now run a minority administration at the council.
The full make-up of the enlarged council is as follows:
Shortage of pink sacks
Many residents have complained how difficult it is to get their hands on a roll of pink sacks, after the Tories put the sacks behind the counter. Now many outlets, including some of the council’s own libraries, are refusing to stock them anymore.
Local places that pink sacks are still supposed to be available are Great Linford Parish Council Office in Neath Hill, Newport Pagnell Town Council Office in the High Street, Newport Co-ops on the High Street and Wordsworth Ave and the Recycling Centre in North Crawley Road.
The Liberal Democrats will be pressing the new Labour Council to reverse the policy introduced by the Conservatives before recycling rates across the city plummet.
Cllr Subhan Shafiq,
the new Mayor of Milton Keynes

The main issues raised with us on the doorstep during the election campaign were the failure of the Council to address potholes, overgrown grass not being cut and overgrown bushes not being cut back. Additionally, in the last few weeks, there has been a shortage of pink sacks.
We will have to see whether the new incoming Labour Council is able to succeed where the Conservatives failed.
