Cutting the Cake
40th Anniversary
Sixty past and present members, including several founder members, of the Emberton and District Flower Club greatly enjoyed a celebration “Garden Party” recently in the Institute, Emberton, where the club began. Pot plants, garden table and umbrella, bunting, flowers, pretty crockery and candles gave the hall a really festive atmosphere. Historical archives from many club activities were on display, and caused much interest. The evening began with a welcome by Sheila Bull, Chairperson and a potted history of the club by Christine James, President. Guests then enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by Julia Reynolds, followed by a beautifully decorated celebration cake made by Lorraine, Sheila’s daughter.
After toasts to Emberton Club and the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies, Glenis Smith, our Area President gave us a hilarious demonstration entitled “Then and Now”. Her wit and humour had us
all in stitches as she showed us a traditional design arrangement, followed by several modern and trendy techniques.
Flowers were presented to four founder members, Barbara Page and Jill Burgess who are still members of the club and to Pamela Brooks and Ebba Quenby for committee work, dedication and support over many, many years.
A floral thank you was also given to Enid
Pepper, who had made charming boxes, containing chocolate hearts, for us all to take home as a memento of the evening.
A very big “thank you” to everyone who contributed in any way to a very special evening.
