Phonebox Foodie’s pick of the BOFF stalls...
Once a year. The date’s in the diary. The Big Olney Food Festival. Food, upon food, upon food, right on my doorstop. Sensational smells within yards
of my home. Colourful spreads of delicious food on all sides. It’s possibly my favourite weekend. So with a sneak preview of the menu, what will I be eating this year?
12 noon Brunch...
Brunch assumes that I’ve had no breakfast, so something reasonably substantial is required. I’m very tempted by the Middle Eastern Street Food from Feast - a falafel and bhaji to shake up the taste buds will go down quite nicely, and with plenty of meat later, good to start off veggie. To stay marginally healthy, I’ll take a slice of Watermelon from Harvest as a quick refresher after.
4pm and Tea...
Plenty of sweet choices if that is your thing - and a pancake from Teapots might be just the ticket. But I’ve not really a sweet tooth, so a slice of Donzella’s pizza or a corn on the cob from Emberton Smoked Garlic’s stall will hold off the hunger pangs a little longer.
7pm is Dinner Time
To start, a Cowpers Oak homemade scotch egg, or possibly some chicken wings from Meli’s. And the main course? Without a doubt one of Polar Event’s wagyu beef dishes. Stir Fry or Ciabatta can’t be decided until the night – but this is a very exciting addition to the menu.
Late evening snack
And clearly by closing time, I’m going to be a bit peckish and in need of something to get me through the long hours of the night.
A gourmet hot dog
will do just the job I think – and there are two to choose from this year, with the Bell and Bear and Browns both giving it a go. I very much like the sound of Browns dry cured South African Beer Sticks, so I might just take some of those home too. Just in case I wake up in the night! HB
