AFTER some 300 years since the Act of Union and the creation of a single united kingdom named Great Britain we have just had a vote on Independence for Scotland resulting in the resignation of the Scottish First Minister. Many politicians resist any form of resignation if they can help it. It appears to have gone out of fashion.
The promises made to the No campaign, we are told, will be the start of some major changes in the way we are governed in the future. Let us hope that our leaders have the courage of the Scottish First Minister if they get things wrong.
Three things that definitely did not go wrong last month was the organisation of the Big Olney Food Festival, Rock with Boff and the Newport Pagnell Muster. We were there
in force at these three events, and a few more events as can be seen by looking at the photographs we took and are on our Facebook page. We thoroughly enjoyed all of them. As someone commented to me while I was on the Muster Town Walk, “This is a great area to live in”. Let us not forget that. The positives of living in this area, that has so much on offer locally, is great indeed. We all help put the great into Great Britain. October is no slouch either when it comes to things to do. Just have a look at our Live and Local pages and I’m sure you’ll agree there is more than I can mention here; and with our Writing Competition proving very popular this month we have three readers stories for you to check out.
