IndieGo Oak
A free Music and Arts night
Afree Music and Arts night showcasing local talent is coming to the Cowpers Oak Local singer/songwriter Ian
Roberts has teamed up with Tim at The Cowpers Oak in Weston Underwood, to host a regular Music and Arts night. The night will be held on the first Thursday of every month, and after a successful trial run in October, the first official night kicks off at 8pm on Thursday 6th November, all are invited and entry is free.
The aim is for local artists to get involved, providing the perfect stage for first- time performers and more experienced performers alike. It’s not just about music, the nights will be open to showcase any talent, such as poetry, comedy or writers wanting to perform, or artists including sculptors and painters wishing to present their work to a live and vibrant audience. It is set to be a wonderful event filled with local arts and crafts, poets and bards, with a sprinkling of great live music.
Speaking to Ian about the event, he
explains the teams excitement at having the Phonebox Magazine come on board as sponsors, saying: ‘Everyone involved with IndieGo Oak is delighted that The Phonebox has come on board to sponsor us, The Phonebox magazine has been the leading voice for our local area for many years and we feel sure that will continue. Together we will promote, showcase, and give a wonderful platform for all our local musicians and artists.’
Ian Roberts will kick off the event with a selection of his songs, to be followed by a great variety of other local talent for the rest of the night. As well as getting to perform there are other perks to getting involved, with Tim at the Cowpers Oak offering a free drink to all performers, plus a 20% off voucher for a meal in the future. If you would like to perform, you can contact Ian beforehand at: ian@ianrobertsmusic.org, or simply turn up on the night and see if there’s a slot free.
If you’re not the performing type but enjoy listening to live music and viewing local art then this is a night not to be missed. The
evening will provide a warm and friendly environment, with acoustic sets, up and coming musicians as well as better known performers, and a chance for you to perform or maybe support a friend who is performing. There’s a great selection of musicians and artists lined up already, so do give the Cowpers Oak barn a visit on the first Thursday of the month. For more information visit www.cowpersoak.co.uk.
If you’d love to get involved with music but have yet to pick up your guitar, then Ian Roberts is offering a regular beginners guitar workshop every Saturday morning at 10am. Held in “The Barn” at the rear of The Cowpers Oak pub in Weston Underwood, it’s £10 per hour is open to all ages. It’s a fun morning, which provides the opportunity to learn in a group setting; a great advantage as individuals will inspire each other and share the passion of making music together, just bring your guitar.
