Olney Middle School
On Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th of October, Year 5 were very lucky to be given the opportunity to build and
launch their own rockets.
On Monday, we first met John the Rocket Man who helped us build the amazing rockets which could blast off into the sky as high as Big Ben. We had so much fun learning how to design and make them, including all the different features and how they work. Once they were ready, each rocket was placed on the table to fix the gunpowder in the bottom comfortably. At the end of the next day, the entire school gathered on the field to watch our rocket launch. John placed each rocket carefully on the launching sticks, making sure everybody was a safe distance away! One by one, the rockets were catapulted into the sky, soaring above the school. Some flew straight, while others performed swirling somersaults. We were very proud of our rockets, especially when the whole school gave us a big cheer. Overall, it was a fantastically memorable event. Written by the children in 5JH.
Turvey Lower School
Once upon a time a group of children entered the enchanted wood and sat on toadstools around a beautiful wooden chair and the magic began...
Here at Turvey our children have been making the most of the last of the lovely weather, working outside where they have been listening to stories of faraway places, magical creatures, and heroes and heroines swashbuckling for the good of all! The children have been given the opportunity to join in and add their own lines to the tales, helping create truly exciting and diverse stories. The ‘story chair’ has enthused and inspired our children back in the classroom too, where they have written their own stories full of intrepid adventures and lovable characters, described in such detail as to bring it all to life!
The children have loved the opportunity to work outside in our woodland area and therefore the school invited willow artist, Georgia Wisbey, to come and create a willow unicorn to further extend the magic. The children helped design and weave the unicorn. The unicorn will continually evolve and the children will be able to add to it and decorate it to reflect the different times of year.
In recognition of this work with an artist and the School’s continual development of its arts programme and its recognition of the value of the Arts and Culture within the school curriculum, Turvey Lower was recently awarded the Arts Mark by the Arts Council England.
