Readers’ Letters
Elwyn Lack
Dear Editor, Sheila Lack and family would like to say thank you to everyone for the cards and messages of sympathy received for the sudden death of Elwyn. He will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
Thank you, Sheila Lack
Inconsiderate Parking
Dear Editor, I refer to your July edition of Phonebox in which you published a readers letter under the heading “Inconsiderate Parking”.
It showed a picture of a car parked parallel to the curb in Olney High Street which your reader found unacceptable and questioned the parking ability of the driver.
This car was probably the only car parked in accordance with the Highway Code as all the other cars parked facing the curb contravene it.
As you are probably aware the Highway code clearly states that you must not reverse into a main road as all these cars must do in order to continue their journey. Although it is not illegal I would have thought that all responsible drivers would obey the Code as you would no doubt fail your driving test if you didn’t and maybe the Police would be involved as they have to enforce it.
Yours sincerely, BB (Name and Address supplied)
Thank you!
Dear Editor, On June 27th we held a Barn Dance at the Carlton Club to raise funds for MS. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK.
We had a great evening, raising over £1,300 from ticket sales and our auction and raffle. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended, donated and helped make it the success that it was. Our special thanks to The Carlton Club for their fabulous venue and to Roy & Co. for the great tunes, as well as the businesses that helped with their kind donations.
We are continuing to raise funds and will be taking part in the Great North Run in September with the OOKs (Olney Old Knees). Please see our Virgin Giving site. Once again, a big thank you, your support will help fund vital research, provide information, support and services to people affected by MS.
