Newport Pagnell Councillor Corner
Cllrs Paul Alexander, Douglas McCall and Derek Eastman make up the Newport Pagnell South Ward Lib Dem Focus Team. The ward covers the southern half of Newport Pagnell, Giffard Park, Blakelands and a part of Great Linford.
Tongwell Lake Overgrown Vegetation
The Newport Pagnell Focus Team has received numerous complaints from residents of both Blakelands and Newport Pagnell about the overgrown bushes blocking the footpath around Tongwell Lake forcing pedestrians off the path. The Focus Team asked the Council to cut the bushes back, and this has now been done.
Visit by Carole Mills CEO of MK Council
On Wednesday 4th August, Cllrs. Douglas McCall, Paul Alexander and Derek Eastman, the three ward councillors for the Newport Pagnell South ward, played host to Milton Keynes Council Chief Executive, Carole Mills.
Carole learned some of the history of Newport Pagnell and was shown historic buildings as well as the pubs and churches of the Town. We toured historical roads such as the High Street, Silver Street, Priory Street and Tickford Street, where Carole saw the old bakery, School House, the Toll House and the world famous 1810 Tickford Bridge, known locally as the Iron Bridge. Carole was also shown the new footbridge at Riverside Meadow.
We all moved on to see the part of Great Linford in our ward and showed Carole the recently refurbished Great Linford Station, which stood on the Newport Pagnell to Wolverton Railway line.
Carole visited parts of Giffard Park, including the pond, moved on to Blakelands and finished back in Green Park Newport Pagnell.
Cable Laying for Lakes Lane Solar Farm
The tour took around three hours and Carole appreciated a very interesting and historical tour.
Fire Station Roundabout
It is good news that the roundabout near the fire Station in Newport Pagnell has now been resurfaced, a year earlier than planned thanks to pressure for the Newport Pagnell Focus Team. The work took place overnight on the 10th, 11th and 12th of August. It is also good news that the weather did not intervene.
It looks good and provides an easier drive.
Cable Laying for Lakes Lane Solar Farm
The work on the cable laying for the Solar Farm on Lakes Lane has now reached Alexandra Drive, Newport Pagnell, having started at the junction of Lakes Lane and Wolverton Road.
The cable laying on Alexandra Drive will
continue, but there will be a short break when the cable laying team returns to Lakes Lane. Work will continue to lay the cable up to the electricity sub-station on Tongwell Lane. Whilst there has been some disruption it has progressed quickly.
Concessionary Bus Pass
Many of our residents have a Concessionary Bus Pass issued by Milton Keynes Council and are waiting for their new card to arrive automatically on the door mat, but unfortunately this WON’T happen.
We would like to make you aware that these cards are NOT automatically renewed, but it is up to the individual card holder to contact Milton Keynes Council on telephone 01908 252558 and ask to be sent a form to apply to renew the card.
In addition to the form it is necessary to send
• A Passport size photograph – obtainable from a Photo-booth – in Phonebox Magazine and many Post Offices and
supermarkets.
• A copy of a Driving Licence, Passport or
Birth Certificate.
