LUNCHBOX IDEAS
Often, a school lunchbox can look boring and unappetising, but don’t make a reach for the tin foil just yet. Here are some inspiring ways to brighten up your child’s lunchbox!
Pitta Pockets
These are a great alternative to sandwiches and can still be healthy if you choose the ‘wholemeal’ pitta bread option. Fill them with salsa, cheese, ham, mayonnaise, cress, sliced peppers, cucumber and more. Or, if you’re looking for something a bit different, toast your pitta breads and cut them into small fingers. Pack a tub of hummus for the pitta slices to be dipped in – delicious!
Pastas and Salads
Again, a tasty alternative to sandwiches, cold pasta dishes and salads can be really healthy and interesting. A popular option is pesto pasta with lentils. Simply boil up the pasta, strain and stir in green or red pesto and a tin of lentils. This is a brilliant lunch as it is so filling and nutritious. If your children aren’t fans of lentils, try adding cooked peppers, butter beans, chicken or bacon instead!
Fruit Salad
This is a colourful option for children who need a bit of persuading to eat their five-a-day. Chop up strawberries and add them to grapefruit segments, melon slices and blueberries. Simple!
Don’t see lunchbox-making as a chore! Enjoy it.
