Pancake Day 2016
As promised last month here is a further update on how plans are progressing for Pancake Day on February 9th.
New for next year will be the pancake breakfast in the TeflonTM Marquee cooked by celebrity TV chef Lesley Waters and aided by chefs from the Swan Inn and Bistro in Olney and The Bell and Bear at Emberton. Tickets are available from Viv Evans on 01234 711392 or by email at olneypark@hotmail. co.uk. These only cost £5 which includes a glass of Prosecco and will be served between 8.30 and 10.00am.
The other new event for 2016 is the filled pancake recipe competition. Send your recipes to Viv Evans at the above email or by post to The Stone Barn, Olney Park, Yardley Road, Olney MK46 5EJ before January 19th and Lesley Waters will choose three savoury and three sweet recipes to cook on Pancake Day between 10.30 and 11.30am with the help of our two local Chefs. The winner judged by the three chefs will win a fabulous TeflonTM Coated Cookware Set and the five runners up will get a TeflonTM Cookware Prize. So please start experimenting with your recipes and when perfected send them in to be part of this exciting new event for Pancake Day.
The pancake raffle already has three amazing major prizes. 2PEDALZ, Olney’s new bike store, have very kindly agreed to give a new bike of choice to the value of £500 or this could be two smaller children’s bikes. The Swan Inn and Bistro, Olney, have given a £200 voucher to be spent on a group meal in the restaurant. TeflonTM have given a seven 16 Phonebox Magazine

All other events will be as usual on Pancake Day. Children’s Races at 10.00am on the north side of the Market Place. Freshly cooked pancakes, teas and coffees on the Market Place and in the Church Hall. Children’s entertainers and of course the cooking demonstration and competition in the Marquee.
At 11.50am outside the Olney Deli the main Pancake Race starts, followed at the finish in Church Street by prize giving and the Shriving Service in the Parish Church.
The Middle School are organising a pancake flipping competition and competing with a school in Liberal, USA, and the last event of the day from 6.00pm in the Church Hall is the video link-up with Liberal to find the international winner followed by the Pancke Raffle Draw.
The most important thing is to get 25 ladies of 18 years or over who have lived in Olney for at least three months to fill in their entry forms available from the NatWest Bank, Olney, in early January and return to the bank. Cash prizes for all the runners, with the winner able to win over £300, if her time is faster than Liberal, plus some lovely prizes.
As soon as your 2016 diary arrives make sure 9th February goes in and come and join in this fun day in Olney.
