Olney Bowling Club
Another season draws to a close! What sort of year has it been?
The President’s Tale
My thanks to the Promotion Team for a very successful Open Day which resulted in 30 new members. It is very gratifying to see the efforts made by all to ensure “the class of 2015” are integrated into the life of the Club. The new members have helped in fulfilling our match fixtures and have been very evident at social events. The most sociable year I have known during my 49 years as a member. A great leap forward in the promotion of the club this year.
The Secretary’s Tale
There is no doubt in my mind that 2015 has been a wonderful season for Olney Bowling Club and this reflects in the great success we had in our inter-club matches. The green has been a joy to bowl on and it was wonderful to welcome 30 new members to our ranks. Our social events were once again a huge success and I hope that all members will continue to support this great club and take it forward to a successful future. I look forward to 2016 and hope to welcome more new members to the club.
The Treasurer’s Tale
Our continued success allowed us to undertake some major works around the periphery of the Green, and a complete refurbishment of the kitchen. It is worth recording that all this work was completed
due to the efforts of our members who gave their time and experience with nothing in return except our sincere thanks.
The Club’s Promotion Team has taken full advantage of these new improvements, which have been instrumental in gaining new membership. Similarly the Entertainment Team has been able to offer improved functions which have been very well supported by members during the season.
The Entertainer’s Tale
We were able to put together an extensive programme of seven Social Evenings for 2015, which amongst other events, included a Curry Night, Summer BBQ, Horse Racing Night and Quiz Night. These events were magnificently supported by at least 70 club members and their guests on each occasion.
A massive thank you to all our club members who gave their support to these events, throughout the season.
The Club Captain’s Tale
A very successful season with only a handful of matches lost. My thanks to everyone who gave me so much support in this my third year as Club Captain. Especially the Ladies Captain Wendy, and my vice-captain Rory. Once again our Green was second to none and a pleasure to bowl on.
It was lovely to see our new members taking part in the matches and I look forward to seeing some new names on the honours board!
Finally my heartfelt thanks to everyone who volunteered their services to make 2015 such a huge success.
Olney Rugby Club U18 Girls
This summer Olney Rugby Club U18 Girls Charlie Wood and Lizzie Adam started playing touch rugby for Northampton COYS, expecting nothing more than keeping fit over the summer.
At their first tournament for COYS they were approached by Midlands regional selectors to trial for the U18 Midland Tigers. They attended the trials which led to them playing at the 2015 touch nationals in Cambridge, which the Midlands won.
Charlie and Lizzie were then selected to play at the 2015 Junior Touch Championships representing England against teams from all over Europe.
It was an incredible experience for them, getting presented with their England jerseys, singing the national anthem before their final which they narrowly lost against Wales.
They have both just found out that they will be representing England in the 2016 Junior Touch Championships that will be held in the Netherlands. 86 Phonebox Magazine
