Newport Pagnell Councillor Corner
As I write this the weather has changed for the better and the sun is shining. I wonder for how long. In this month’s Councillor Corner Douglas McCall cannot feature as he is a candidate in the local elections for Newport Pagnell South ward.
Newport Pagnell Police Station
We have now heard that the Newport Pagnell Police Station site is up for disposal for development. This has raised a number of questions from local residents about protecting the building. Currently the police station is in a conservation area and cannot be demolished without planning permission. However, that does not fully protect it. Ward Councillors and Newport Pagnell Town Council are investigating the possibility for it to become a listed building to protect it from demolition. The Police Station has some very historic early cells and was also the local court house.
Work starts on flood locations
A number of locations in Newport Pagnell have been and are subject to flooding in heavy rain. One such location is the junction of The Green and Broad Street. How many pedestrians have been the subjects of soaking by passing vehicles I do not know. However, work has now commenced to resolve the issue. Another location is on the railway walk redway near the motorway bridge. Both of these locations have been the subject of complaints. I am aware of another location on Wolverton Road and I am following this up with MK Council to resolve the problem.
Potholes in Newport Pagnell
The Liberal Democrats have asked for the pothole policy to be reviewed, e.g. to take into account the number of potholes as well as their depth. We have now had good news regarding Willen Road and Annesley Road. We have been told that Willen Road is to be repaired in the early summer but, as usual, this will depend on the weather. Council officers also agree that the section of Annesley Road affected also needs to be completely resurfaced, and a bid is being worked up to include that in the resurfacing programme for next Financial Year. We would like it sooner. After pushing for the potholes on Alexandra Drive to be repaired we have been told that there are plans to repair them this year. Only time will tell.
EU Referendum
By now you should all know about the EU referendum that will be held on the 23rd June. Key dates have been released. To vote in the referendum you must be registered to vote. If you are not registered the final date and time for registration is midnight on the 7th June. If you are on holiday or away you can apply for a postal vote but you will need to be registered and will need to apply by 5pm on the 15th June.
