Mark Lancaster MP
Before we went to press, Phonebox Magazine contacted Mark to hear his views on the Referendum. He said the following:
MK’s got a new set of wheels!
MK’s answer to the Boris Bikes were launched last month and we saw around 500 Santander bicycles being made available to hire around the city.
The bikes, which have the technology built into the frame rather than the docking stations used in London, will be available from 40 locations across Milton Keynes.
Having seen the project rst hand, I am very hopeful the new scheme will encourage hundreds of new cyclists across MK.
Cycling is a fantastic and a reasonably cheap way of getting to work. A great way to keep t and a wonderful opportunity to see areas of Milton Keynes that are out of sight when sitting in your car. We haven’t utilised the redways as much as we should, so hopefully with this new incentive in place, we will see more people make use of the ready-made infrastructure in the city.
Invictus Games
In my role as Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans at the MOD, I had the honour of supporting Team GB at the Invictus Games in Orlando last month.
Our incredibly inspiring athletes achieved 49 gold, 46 silver and 36 bronze medals, from the 108 members, which is quite a haul.
We must remember, however, that it’s not just about the winning, but the amazing contribution of our Armed Forces community and veterans who against all odds have overcome the mental and physical obstacles placed before them to compete in the games.
The Big Friendly Read
MK Libraries need volunteers aged 13-25 to get involved with ‘The Big Friendly Read’ Summer Reading Challenge 2016.
The days, times and locations are exible in order to encourage the
volunteers which are needed in all nine libraries across MK – Central Milton Keynes, Bletchley, Newport Pagnell, Stony Stratford, Wolverton, Westcroft, Kingston, Woburn Sands and Olney.
This volunteering opportunity can be used towards V•INSPIRED volunteering requirements, the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, UCAS applications or when applying to college or for work. For more details go to www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/src
Mobile Surgeries
It’s hard to believe that we are 12 months on since my last mobile surgery in the rural communities.
This is my opportunity to meet those who would otherwise nd it dif cult to come to the constituency of ce for one of my regular surgeries. I’ve made sure that I’m able to reach all the villages in MK North and so if you have any concerns or issues you’d like to discuss with me, then make a note of when I’m in your area. If the matter is urgent, then please do contact me on 01908 686830.
“I fully accept the result and have no doubt that the UK will prosper outside of the EU in the medium term. I am concerned that there will now be some short term economic turbulence and my priority will be to do all that I can to protect Milton Keynes from any negative impact this decision could have on our local economy.”
