Newport Pagnell Neighbourhood Plan
Following a successful referendum on 5th May 2016, the Newport Pagnell Neighbourhood Plan was made part of the Development Plan by Milton Keynes Council on 8th June 2016. Further details including the plan itself are available at: http://www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/planning- and-building/planning-policy/newport-pagnell- neighood-plan
The essence of the plan is that there will be a primary development site on Tickford Fields, for some 1200 new homes, which will include a new pre and primary school, a local shopping centre, a neighbourhood play area, a health and well-being centre, and cycle tracks leading towards the Town Centre.
A transport assessment will be conducted to model the effects of the additional traf c in the area, and particularly onto the A509/A422. Milton Keynes Ward Councillors congratulated the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group which was led by the Town Council on a very successful plan, and note that the plan has been shortlisted for the prestigious Planning Awards in the Neighbourhood Plan category. In shortlisting the plans, the judges were looking for entries that would improve the physical and environmental quality of a place, or the economic and social well-being of a community.
Extra marks were awarded for originality, long- lasting impact, community involvement and bene t, and nancial viability.
Churches Together in Newport Pagnell – Emergency Help Scheme
This organisation was set up by Churches Together over thirty years ago and continues to support local people needing assistance with transport to hospitals and clinic appointments, using a team of local volunteers (around 25). This help is highly valued by local people in Newport Pagnell who appreciate being escorted from their home directly to their appointment and returned in a similar manner. Drivers volunteer for whatever they are able to take on.
Some only do short distances once or twice a year to the local health centre, optician or dentist. Others drive more frequently and further a eld. Whatever the need, the help has always been valued and it is a great way to serve the local community.
There is a nominal charge made to cover the cost of petrol and running of the vehicles. Behind the scenes are four telephone coordinators (contactable on 01908 615131,

town’s signi cant role in the Civil War in an entertaining and educational way.
Newport Pagnell played a significant role as one of a line of forti ed Parliamentarian Garrison Towns stretching through the South Midlands during the Civil War, 1642-1651. Both Royalists and Parliament, considered the town strategically important and Oliver Cromwell had an affinity for the town – ghting alongside its troops, sending his son (the ‘joy of his life’) to serve with its men, and summoning most of his New Model Army to meet here on the eve of the decisive Battle of Naseby.
Major General Skippon establishing his headquarters at the Saracen’s Head (adjoining the Swan) in January 1644 Sir Samuel Luke became the Governor of the town, and his attention would soon turn to repairing the forti cations, for in March heavy rain caused the earthworks to give way.
1646, the order came to dismantle the forti cations at Newport Pagnell, and disband the garrison.
Suitable for families, school parties, history buffs or just a fun day out... ‘armies’ of Roundheads and Cavaliers will recreate the Civil War at Newport Pagnell over Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday with cannons, cavalry, pike and musket – all the sounds and fury of battle, live commentary, spectators’ arena, ‘living history’ displays, market place, refreshments. Large crowds are expected; follow the signs.

Milton Keynes Road Re-Surfacing
A number of roads in the Newport Pagnell South Ward have been resurfaced recently. Milton Keynes Council has decided to use the new Micro Surfacing technique which is around 45% of the cost of traditional road surface treatment and this means more roads can be resurfaced.
Micro-Surfacing is a polymer modi ed, asphalt emulsion based, dense graded, cold mixed, quick setting, asphalt resurfacing material. It is designed to be applied in a semi-liquid condition with a specialized mixing and paving machine. By design it chemically changes from a semi-liquid material to a dense cold mix material that is able to carry normal traf c within one hour after application.
