House are proud to have been up and running in Newport Pagnell for a year now. Phonebox Magazine went to speak to the owners of The East House, Artur and Monika, about their rst year in business. A key topic of discussion was the car collision that happened just a few weeks ago. On the evening of Sunday 5th June, a car crashed into the front of The East House, meaning the whole business was forced to close for ve days. The accident had a signi cant impact on their trade but they have re-opened the restaurant, and repair work will be continued throughout the next few weeks. Unfortunately, over the past few months, the team at The East House have struggled to get people through the doors to try their food. They worry that the residents of Newport Pagnell and beyond are wary of trying new Polish
offers, and this is clear from their TripAdvisor reviews. Monika said, “Although we are a Polish restaurant, we want to become part of the English community. We want to change perceptions – this isn’t just a Polish restaurant; it’s a restaurant for Newport Pagnell.” Leaving the car accident and negativities aside, they have had a very positive year. The East House is not only the 13th highest rated restaurant in Milton Keynes on TripAdvisor (out of over 400 restaurants), but they are also undergoing Michelin Inspector visits and are hoping to be in the 2017 Michelin Guide. Owners Artur and Monika explained, “From now until September, we will have around sixty undercover Michelin Inspectors coming to try our food. Once they’ve submitted their reports, we’ll nd out if we’re in the Michelin Guide. There are currently only two Milton Keynes
restaurants in the Guide: Jamie’s Italian and Brasserie Blanc. So it will be fantastic if The East House are in the 2017 Guide!”
The East House are now offering coffee and cake everyday from 12-5pm and have a new lunch menu in which all dishes are at a xed price of £7.50. They are also setting up a new loyalty card scheme – a great way of taking advantage of the fantastic deals The East House offer. If you’re in Newport Pagnell, the restaurant is also offering free delivery to the local area (you will need to call in advance to ask when the free delivery service is running). Clearly, this Polish restaurant has had a rollercoaster of a year but they seem very optimistic and positive about what the next 12 months will bring.
