and Wickets’ is about that trip, November 2013 - January 2014. She can still hear the clamouring Australian crowd reverberating round the stands and see the despair on the English faces as they silently led out into the streaming afternoon sun.
The razzamatazz of the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro during the summer of 2014 prompted Jenny to pen her thoughts and complete the trilogy. With the England team making a sharp exit, ‘Brazil Nuts’ is brief, a novella. Jim, aware of what the England team were up against, was pessimistic. This maddened Jenny. His criticism was harsh. Having witnessed the 1966 World Cup, anything less in performance and determination didn’t cut it. Jenny had to admit that Jim’s comments were justi ed. He was rarely wrong.

TResolutions
his month we discussed and
voted on the Resolutions, and one lady who had attended he Federation Council Meeting at
Aylesbury in April reported on the events of the day and the speakers, who included a Judge, the past and present High Sheriffs of Buckinghamshire, and a lady pilot who had own Tornado ghter aircraft.
Our advertised programme for June had to be changed at the last minute as the speaker was indisposed. However, instead we had a ‘Royal Quiz’, which proved more dif cult than might rst be thought. Each question had three possible answers; some were easy, some not. For instance, do you know how many rooms there are in Buckingham Palace? Or the date of the last Coronation?
This was followed by a baby photo quiz – Royal Babies that is. Some of the more recent ones weren’t too dif cult, but go back a generation and it becomes a lot harder. Much discussion and head scratching
ensued, not to mention laughter when the answers were revealed. Anyway, lots of ladies received prizes and it was a great opportunity for chatting to new people. Many thanks to Carol for organising it all. Continuing on the Royal theme, several ladies wore hats or fascinators to the meeting, and at tea time we had cupcakes decorated with pink icing and owers, and a beautiful fruit cake with red, white and blue icing, gold decorations, and a line of soldiers all the way round the side. Well done Carol and Julia.
Two new ladies joined our Institute this month, and there were four visitors who we hope to see again soon.
Newport Pagnell Women’s Institute meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the room at the rear of the Methodist Church. The July meeting will feature an illustrated talk on National Trust Gardens. For further information please call Evelyn Mison on 01908 615630 or just turn up on the night.
