any people came along to the United Reformed church, Olney, over the weekend of 8th-10th of July to enjoy Olney in Flower. We were celebrating the wonderful and diverse community we have here by inviting different
groups and businesses from the town to come and portray themselves through owers. They didn’t have to be real owers, although there were some magni cent displays created from those too. The materials used in the displays were as diverse as the groups who took part. From paper, lace and carpet through to wellington boots, weighing scales and wells, they were all used to great affect and the visitors thoroughly enjoyed the amazing visual display they created.
As an added bonus we were treated to music throughout the weekend from Mr Roy Turner, church organist, who has recently celebrated 60 years of playing the organ for the church. We also had visits from the Sherington Folk Group, who were kind enough to come and play for us and also some of the preschool children who entertained us with some excellent nursery rhyme singing.
The visitors were asked to vote on their favourite display, and although it was hard to choose, the majority vote was for CAMEO, with a beautiful display of red, white and blue owers to re ect their recent celebration of the Queen’s birthday. CAMEO is a community group, which meets at the Baptist Church on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. The church would like to thank everyone who came along and supported us and particularly all the participants who made time to create their fantastic displays.
