The Council, however, continues with its work and service to the Town.
One item that is being dealt with at the moment is the transfer of the ‘Youth Club’ on Wolverton Road. This is currently owned by Milton Keynes Council but some time ago a policy was introduced to transfer such property to the local ‘Community’. This process is known as the Community Asset Transfer, CAT for short. Newport Pagnell Town Council has already had the Swimming Pool, the Sports Ground and Green Park Community Centre transferred to it under this process. The ‘Youth Club’ transfer will be slightly different in that it will act as a trust with a board of trustees although the building will be owned by the Town Council. The eld,
attended by both local residents and visiting Mayors and other dignitaries. My thanks go to Rev. Nick Evans and his team for their full support and without that support the Civic Service might not have happened. Debbie Brock, a Deputy Lord Lieutenant, gave the reading and a collection was taken for the Newport Pagnell Education Trust Charity. Afterwards we had tea, coffee and snacks at the Brooklands Centre and listened to the Olney Brass Band as they played in Ousebank Gardens. It was a very warm day and it was also good to see many local families enjoying their picnics and listening to the music.
I also really enjoyed attending the Por elds School Summer Fete. The fete was
resurrected this year after a long absence and was well attended by pupils and parents. Although it started to rain as the fete opened it did not seem to dampen spirits. There was fun and games but most of all excellent cakes that disappeared off the stall very quickly. I am very grateful for having been invited to open it.
In finishing I would like to say that time permitting I am happy to attend any event but please contact the Newport Pagnell Town Council of ces for information.
Olney Fire Station
IOpen Day
t was a sunny day in July when we opened our doors and welcomed members of the public to our open day. As well as Olney’s re engine, affectionately known locally as “The Beast”;
on account of it’s whopping 26 tonnes (including 9 tonnes of water), we were joined by colleagues from other stations who we work with at emergencies. Specialist appliances included the Water rescue unit from Newport Pagnell, the turntable ladder from Great Holm and the remotely operated ‘drone’ that provides aerial imaging of large incidents.
The new Co Responder car that attended supports a scheme run in partnership with South Central Ambulance Service. Fire ghters who have received Co-responder training from SCAS are mobilised to start vital care and treatment for patients in life-threatening situations prior to the arrival of an ambulance.
Once again a huge thanks to the retailers of Olney who donated some fantastic prizes for our raf e, this along with all the other attractions helped us raise over £700 for the Fire ghters Charity.
