Paganell Grange Fête
On Sunday 15th July the bunting and banners will be out over Paganell Grange Nursing Home in Westbury Lane for our League of Friends Annual Summer Fête. The Fête will be opened at 2pm by the Town Mayor, Simon Baines, and will feature entertainment from Diamond Children's Theatre Group, Port School performers and Sapphire singing group as well as a wide variety of stalls and games. Refreshments, including cream teas and a chocolate fountain, will be available. Newport Pagnell has strong community spirit and Newportonians have always given their full support to the event. We hope to raise funds to provide outings, entertainments and additional comforts for the residents of Paganell Grange. Please come along and join in the fun. For more details, please contact either Roy Read on 01908 616523 or Rosie Parsons on 01908-614435. ❑
NO SMOKING
The smoking ban will be implemented on 1 July 2007 in England
Scotland introduced a smoking ban last year and Wales and Northern Ireland are about to introduce smoking bans. Organisations in England should also have started to prepare for the ban commencing here on 1st July 2007. This smoking ban extends to all enclosed public spaces and workplaces including work vehicles and if not prepared for can cost:-
Offences and Penalties
Regulations in the Health Act 2006 create three new offences in England and Wales:
● Failure to display minimum statutory no-smoking signs is a fine up to £1000 or fixed penalty notice of £200.
● Smoking in a smoke-free place is a fine up to £200 or penalty notice of £50.
● Failure to prevent smoking in a smoke free place is a fine up to £2500.
If you have not prepared for the ban you would be well advised to take the following steps:
1. DEVELOP A POLICY – Set up a task force to develop options for implementing the law. Ensure a mix of staff within this task force. Identify those responsible for implementing the policy.
2. CONSULT & COMMUNICATE – Communicate the policy to employees. Ensure that employees are aware of the dangers of smoking and second hand smoke. Offer health information and help to those wishing to quit. It should also include the names of those responsible for implementing the policy, arrangements for smokers and information about disciplinary action for non compliance.
3. IMPLEMENT & MONITOR – Display copies of the policy in house, give and discuss with all staff. After 1 July display statutory no-smoking signs in accordance with the law. Make provision for the disposal of cigarette ends and provide for ongoing monitoring of the ban.
Turn this new law into a positive with your organisation assisting to improve the health of employees and customers.
