Olney Health & Fitness MD reaches British Bodybuilding Final
Local businessman and bodybuilder Martin Stevenson has recently reached the final of the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (UKBFF). Martin finished in the top two at the regional ‘Midlands Classic’ and progresses to the final in the over 90kg ‘heavyweight’ category.
Martin is MD and owner of Olney’s premier gym and fitness centre – Olney Health & Fitness, a position that allows him to mix his flair for business with his passion for bodybuilding.
Martin recently took some time out from his busy schedule to discuss his approach to training.
“In my years of training I’ve always found it easy to motivate myself. As I see it I am only ever competing against myself and therefore don’t worry about any other competitor.”
“I just do my best by pushing my limits and at the same time learning and evolving as an athlete. The majority of the training and nutrition principles I employ are relevant to everyone, young and old, overweight and underweight.”
“I respect anyone who takes the time to improve their health and fitness regardless of their current condition and after all a ‘1000 mile journey’ begins with a single step, you just have to keep walking. The most difficult aspect of joining a gym is walking through the door but once you have taken that first step of your journey, you will, one day, look back and see just how far you have come.”
The secret of Martin’s success can be summarised in two simple words – no excuses. A simple, yet effective, philosophy that explains Martin’s approach to both business and training.
“There are no excuses for not training or not eating properly, it just takes a little preparation. If time is the factor, make time! I used to get up at 5am have breakfast get ready and travel to Northampton, then train, shower then put on my suit and run a company in Wellingborough as Managing Director before I bought the gym.”
Martin concluded with some advice for anyone who’s looking to improve their fitness and get in shape.
G Persistence is key to achieving your goals – don’t give up!
G Set yourself realistic targets that are measurable and time specific, you will be delighted and even more highly motivated each time you reach your targets.
G Vary your training, it is good to confuse your body and push it out of its comfort zone. Your body only adapts to change, so you must keep moving the target to see continual improvement.
G Diet is 80% of your results, if you eat well then the results of your workouts are multiplied.
G Come to Olney Health & Fitness, take a look around and see that exercise is available to all genders, ages, shapes and sizes. Whatever your goals, we will work with you to help achieve them – no excuses!
