We must also thank St John Ambulance for providing first aid cover.
The Carnival Quiz League concluded just before Carnival Day and I received eight all correct entries for the final June leg. After a draw three lucky winners received £5 each, they are: David Lovell, John Tomkins and Elise Parker. Thanks to the written quiz and the quizzes at The Works approximately £900 has been raised over the year, so a big thank you to all supporters on behalf of the Committee. The overall written quiz was won by Joyce Sharman after a nearest to tie-break question. Joyce retains the coveted title of Carnival Quiz League Champion, a trophy to hold for a year and £10 cash prize. The two runners-up Dora Mallows and Mrs L Knight also receive £5 prizes.
The Quiz League will be back in September for another year and I will run a subscription system again. This means £5 will supply all four legs of the quiz when they
become available, saving you £1 over the individual sheet price of £1.50, with a guarantee that you don't miss out. Entry forms will be ready early in the month from Terry Savage (01933 665209).
Thanks mainly to our generous sponsors, we had a successful Carnival financially and were able to make £120 donations to the following local organisations: Sports Association, Wollaston and Strixton Pre-School, Busy Bees, Girls Brigade, Age Concern, Methodist Luncheon Club, The Parochial Rooms, The Girl Guides and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, as well as £50 to Animals in Need and £30 to Kettering Hospital Radio.
We hope that the village generally enjoys and looks forward to Carnival Day as much as the Committee, but the actual day itself does not happen without a lot of work in preparation throughout the year. We are a fairly small committee and with two members resigning we need new blood to carry on into 2009. So if you would like the Carnival to continue please make every effort to come along to our AGM on Monday 15 September at The Hill (Scott Baders) 7.30pm. Remember it’s your Carnival, so please act now, before it’s too late.

The week ended with a huge family BBQ on the Friday evening, when the sun shone, and around 375 adults and children enjoyed the food, arts and crafts, games and other activities.
We have already started planning for next year, and the dates are: Monday, 3rd August – Friday, 7th August 2009, 9.30–12.00. So put the dates in your diaries now!
