The Carnival Committee would like to thank everyone who helped in anyway at this years Carnival. We hope that you all had an enjoyable afternoon and feel that it makes all our hard work worthwhile for such a unique village event.
The weather was thankfully back to the usual dry pattern on the day, which is what we had come to enjoy, rather than the washout of last year. The afternoon started well with the fly past that we had arranged of 15 Tornados in a diamond formation passing over the assembly point at the school in Irchester Road (although someone mentioned something about the Queens Birthday). Many villagers turned out to watch the parade wend its way down to the Playing Fields from Irchester Road. This year's parade included the usual mix of floats, a marching band, cheerleading team, morris men, various walking groups and vintage vehicles, as well as the best float winners the Wollaston and Strixton Pre-School and best walkers the Busy Bees Playgroup.
Once the parade and many followers had arrived at the playing fields, this year’s Mayor of Wellingborough, our own Councillor Eileen Higgins carried out the official opening. This signalled the start of events in the arena, which was begun by an excellent display from the
Moulton Morris Men followed by the Storm Cheerleading Team and the Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers Marching Band. These were followed by the St John Ambulance staging an incident, a display from the Bernese Carters and a chance to stroke the dogs for the children. We had produced a programme of events again to give people some idea of what was happening and when, again our thanks for this professional looking document must go to Pips Design for design and artwork, Allison Printers for printing, WASNAV for distribution and John Hardaker for the procession map.
Besides events in the arena, there was also Alan Martell Magical Entertainer, Fairground Rides and Stalls, Dog Show arena, Sports Coaching, cream teas, etc. We must also not forget the many stalls from various local organisations. We do thank you again for all your support and hope you had a good afternoon.
This year again we had to organise the marshalling of the parade ourselves and owe a big thank you to the many people who volunteered to help stop the traffic, so that the parade could pass through without trouble. If not for your help the parade would probably not happen, as the police would not allow it to leave. So thank you once again and we hope that you will volunteer again next year
