OLNEY BOWLS CLUB
RECREATION GROUND (Behind Football Club)
OPEN DAY – SUNDAY 8 MAY 2011 2pm
afTer anoTher WinTer of hard graft for the dedicated team of bowlers, the clubhouse has undergone the final part of its transformation.
They have created more space in the dining and bar areas. Gone are the arches, now square piers support the roof sections. The floor has a new screed over which new carpeting has been laid.
The bar area will hopefully have some new furniture in the near future. a smoking shelter has been erected for those who must.
now perhaps the good omens of last year might prevail again, as we had players who qualified for the national championships after last year’s renovations. Who knows!!!
apart from that our clubhouse and green have probably the best facilities in bucks. So if you have ever thought about playing bowls why not come and join us at our oPen daY on Sunday 8th May starting at 2pm. bowls will be provided, but please bring a pair of flat soled shoes.
Poetry as Easter approaches
The Donkey
When fishes flew and forests walked And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood Then surely I was born.
With monstrous head and sickening cry And ears like errant wings,
The devil’s walking parody
On all four footed things.
The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb, I keep my secret still.
Fools! For I also had my hour; One far fierce hour and sweet; There was a shout about my ears, And palms before my feet.
G K Chesterton
it was suggested that we might offer some Shakespeare for St George’s day; but this year 23rd of april is easter Saturday. further Shakespeare doesn’t need the prop of a most uncertain saint; we owe the bard a great deal so he must have some space of his own some other day. Gb

POND NEWS FROM OLNEY INFANTS
JuST before halfTerM we were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Milton Keynes, debbie brock to officially hand over a cheque for £3,208. The money is a community Wildlife grant and is already being used to re-develop the pond area at the school. The next chapter (helped by one of the parents) is to restore electricity to the area. Then children, staff and visitors will all be able get busy watching, photographing, videoing and looking closely at the wildlife, using the cameras, videos, notebooks and electronic microscopes the school is buying as part of the grant. 1st olney Scouts and the lions are also closely involved in the project and scouts were on hand to show debbie the work they have completed so far. We hope the Mayor will be able to come back later in the Summer Term and officially open our re-vamped space!
NEWS FROM NORTH CRAWLEY CE SCHOOL BOOK WEEK
The children reTurned to an extraterrestrial environment at north crawley ce School as the classrooms were transformed into alien planets for our ‘book week’. it really is remarkable what you can do with silver fabric, tin foil and old cds!!!! Throughout the week there were visits from a librarian, special story times, a dressing up day and many book related activities. The fun packed week culminated in a ‘bed time story’ session during the afternoon – (well it was pretend!) with the whole school dressed in their pyjamas with a mug of hot chocolate and ready for a bedtime story of course!!!! What a happy ending!
