Pancak Tuesday M
We woke early on March 8th Shrove Tuesday to a sharp frost, but a clear sky and virtually no wind. It turned out to be the most perfect spring day with unbroken sunshine for the annual Pancake Race in the town. The Market Place soon altered with marquees, stalls, sound system, all erected by 9.00am. Banners for start and finish with our sponsors Francis Jackson Homes on them. A reception was held at our main sponsors office where the Mayor of Milton Keynes Debbie Brock and Peter Geary, Town Mayor Michael and Susan Hughes, Deputy Mayor Steve Clark and Deputy Lieutenant for Bucks Francesca Skelton, our MP Mark Lancaster and a guest from Liberal Larry Stevens, were welcomed together with representatives for Dupont who have joined in with sponsorship this year.
As usual our guests were asked to start the children’s races at 10.30am. We had five groups from the Infants School. Two from the Middle School and two from Olney Campus Ousedale. A big thank you to all the young people who took part all dressed for the part and also to the teachers for the brilliant organisation.
We had 17 runners in the main race which started a little earlier than planned. Our winner this year was Nicky Sallis in a time of 72 seconds. After the welcome kiss from the Verger, Ken Noon, and lots of photo calls and press interviews, all the runners joined a
