PSA testing at the Carlton House Club, Olney
On Saturday 26th February the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust ran a PSA testing afternoon in the Carlton House Club, Olney High Street.
Dea
Baxter – Smith gives all of his time totally free of charge as do all of the other volunteers who make these days work.
Statistically Olney represented the National picture almost identically with
four tests resulting in a ‘Red Letter’ which advises that a consultation with your GP is strongly advised so that appropriate testing and treatment can be arranged.
Red Letters do not indicate that cancer is present; The
Prostate Specific Antigen level is an indicator only and is taken into consideration with other factors to reach a conclusion.
The Trust has facilitated in excess of 15000 tests in the past five years and have identified 300 plus cancers which otherwise would have gone undetected. This should be seen in context of the national picture where
35000 men are diagnosed with PCa annually with a very stubborn figure of 10000 becoming fatalities.
The Charity wishes to express its thanks to: the Mayor of Olney, Mike Hughes for attending and giving the afternoon a visibility boost; the Olney Town Council for their generous donation; an the excellent nurses from Milton Keynes Hospital who took the blood samples along with Jackie Jeynes who stood in at the last moment as unfortunately we couldn’t get any more local nurses through the Surgery in Olney.
As with all charities we rely on donations to allow this excellent work to carry on so thanks to Francis Jackson Homes, Early Visible Results Limited, Stephen Oakley and Co. and to the many individuals who were particularly generous.
To Viv, Richard and the Club committee for free use of the hall and the first generous donation of the day.
Lastly to the Phonebox for their professional help in amending the ad and posters and their generous discounting policy for Charities.
England also sent the French packing in the Rugby International that followed on the big screen; All in all a good day.
Our camps are also available to non OTCFC members.

A total of 51 men of qualifying age, 45 and upwards, had a blood sample taken and the results were back with them within 10 days.
The results are analysed by Dr David Baxter- Smith a consultant Urologist who attended on the day and gave an entertaining talk on this serious matter. Dr
