Turvey Lower School –
Reception Gardening
Once again this year we have had a fantastic year for gardening at turvey Lower school.
the children have had the opportunity to experience the gardening process, throughout the year. in the winter we were planting daffodil bulbs, which we enjoyed drawing in the spring. in the spring we planted cress and made grass heads! Just recently we have been planting potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, beans, lettuces, herbs and courgettes.
Building on what we have learnt from last year, Matthew Peck from alban hill nurseries has once again provided us with all of the plants and seeds. also this year, along with turvey gardening club they have been on hand to provide help and advice about what to grow and where. it has also been lovely to be able to grow the more unusual varieties of vegetables and show children things that they might not have seen before.
We have enjoyed popping along to Turvey Lower School and helping year R with planting of vegetables, and this year we introduced flowers to help attract polinating insects. The day was great fun for all and we look forward to seeing the profits of our labour.

the PhOtOgraPh aBOve shows that many hands make light work even on a model railway layout. the layout pictured is our n gauge layout Market cross in the final stages of work preparing for the club exhibition in september. it looks as though we will have a good range of visiting layouts for the event. the request for information about Olney station in a previous issue of the Phonebox has bought some very useful replies and offers of further help. We now have access to a large range of photos and plans. also we have one person who actually drove trains on the line. a visit to a station now used as a private residence will have taken place prior to this issue of Phonebox being published.
We are still seeking more members of any level of skill and experience, from beginners to experts, to assist in building the exhibition layouts, to develop their model making skills or just to run their trains on a much larger track than most people have available at home.
the club meets every thursday from 7.30 in the permanent club room behind the carlton club. Members have a wide range of interests from live steam models to n gauge. Just come along and join in or phone 01234 241686 for more details.
