Lion Burgers at Weston Underwood!
and then come back,
write a couple of books
and go round motorcycle
clubs to relate the
fantastic experiences.
This was exactly what
Norman and Maggie
Magowan did as we
found out when the Club
joined members of
Oakley Motor Cycle club
recently at The Three
Cranes in Turvey.
The evening, presented with boundless wit and warmth had everyone in stitches, tears and lots of envy, often at the same time as Norman gave us the lowdown on the trip. The trip was, as he put it, a demonstration of how “you can live your dream” no matter how impossible that may seem.
If you would like to follow their trip from the safety and comfort of your home, why not get one of the books “Leprechauns in Latin America” or “Leprechauns to
Alaska”, you will surely be as inspired as we were.

hope you enjoyed one of the succulent Beef Burgers or Hot Dogs prepared by the less than celebrity Chefs from the Lions Club. The festival, organised by Tim and the guys at the Cowperʼs Oak, were looking to use the event to raise funds for the local community and who better to link into but Lions. As a result, our combined efforts over £350 has found itʼs way into the club Charity account much of which will eventually go back into
If you are a Malt Whisky buff, or would like to find out a bit more about Scotlandʼs National Drink (and one of the UKʼs major exports) then the place to be on 26th October is the Carlton House Club in Olney.
We will be holding More Malt
our second Malt Whisky tasting
which this year, is being led by
Dr Andrew Forrester one of the leading experts in the World of Malt Whisky
Dr Forrester is The Balvenie UK Brand Ambassador and is coming to Olney specifically to run the Tasting for us. The aim of the evening will be to gain and understanding of the variations in different expressions of malt whisky which come from a single distillery, using the same basic process, ingredients and techniques. Needless to say, we will need to sample these variations to prove what he is saying is actually accurate so if you wish to extend your knowledge beyond that of last year, you canʼt miss this evening.
If you didnʼt make our last event, donʼt miss out this time by accessing our website at www.npolneylions.btck.co.uk and send us your email address via the contact page. When the tickets are available, we will be in touch when you can decide whether you wish to purchase a ticket and join us in what we hope, is an equally enjoyable event as we had last time.
Were you at the Cowperʼs Oak British Beer festival in Weston Underwood last month?

good causes in the local area. Thanks again to Tim and his staff at Cowperʼs Oak for their support and encouragement– itʼs great to see yet another business prepared to use the Lions club as their route into helping the community in which they operate.
Make a date (before itʼs too late)
Keep an eye open for the Lions Decals which are adorning the windows/doors of an increasing number of businesses in the area. All of these retailers have done something to help the club and your support of these local businesses ensures not only their continued existence, but the survival of the very communities which most of us have chosen to live within. Their support of Lions is a clear demonstration of their commitment to the area they operate in so why not return the compliment by using them whenever possible.
Did you buy one of the Lions Calendars last year?
Well over 100 people did and our success has prompted us to produce a 2013 version which is now on sale.
Carrying 14 real art images of local views and

scenes painted by local artist David Purvis, we have also added loads of information about the images and the Lions club along with an extract from “The Calm Retreat” a short history of Olney by Brian Harris.
What do you do if you have a couple of yellow BMW motor bikes, fancy an out of the usual rideout and have 15 months to spare? Take a ride from Chile to Alaska, of course
